  1. You're not finding nursing jobs overseas on USAJobs for several reasons. My husband was stationed in Germany and I worked for one of the largest (if not THE largest) military hospitals overseas. The military population alone was over 50k. This includes spouses, many who have their RN. Whatever jobs aren't filled by rotating active duty members are filled by dependent spouses. And it's even difficult for them to get the job. The way they get their foot in the door is by volunteering with the local on base Red Cross and then getting hired that way. Not saying it's impossible to find a job from stateside, but it's incredibly difficult even for someone who is stationed there. My suggestion would be to find a job at a base or VA stateside and get in the system that way. Then perhaps more opportunities will open up to you. Good luck!
  2. Good morning all! I am moving back stateside soon (hubby is active duty Air Force) and I finally get to go back to school! I have a Bachelor's in Health Systems Management. It got me a government desk job (which I HATED). I am considering going back to school for nursing. I was accepted to an ADN program at our last base, but declined the position due to a new baby and a husband deploying. So now my kids are all in school, and I'm wondering which path to take. The ADN program is local and I would be dual enrolled with the University (an hr away) to bridge seamlessly into the BSN. However, this will take 3-4 years. After the ADN program is completed, the BSN portion is online. The traditional BSN would take me 2 years. The catch is, the school is a hr drive, and the winters there are HARSH. OR, I could apply for that same school's accelerated BSN, which will take 15 months, but it's an online classroom, traveling all around the state for clinicals. Which option sounds like the best one to take? Any advice would be great! Thanks!!
  3. Hey everyone! I am looking to apply to an ABSN program next year once I graduate. Highly qualified applicants are those who have CNA experience. I was a CNA 11 years ago, fresh out of high school, before I married a military man. :) Now that we are stationed overseas, I will have to go home for a few months to complete CNA training (which is the minimum requirement). My question is this: After finishing the 3 week CNA training, would it be okay to get a job for 3 months with the intention of moving back overseas? I need the experience to be highly competitive for the program, but I would feel bad taking a job knowing I'd only be there for 3 months. I don't want to be away from my husband any longer than that. Thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated! :)
  4. Hi Jeanie! I was accepted last fall but declined due to family reasons. I am planning on reapplying for next fall as well. pickardwoman gave you great advice. You should definitely focus on those classes as those are the ones that give you points. The ACT is also very important. This is where you'll get most of your points from. Take that early and re-take if needed to get the most points you can. It is very competitive as they consistently have hundreds of applicants for 40-50 slots. As long as you do well on the ACT and have the majority of those classes listed above (with good grades) you'll be good! This year the cut off score was 72. I haven't completed A&P 2 or micro yet, but was accepted with an 89. Good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

  6. I was admitted to this program last year with the C, but I had to decline it because of family reasons. There isn't an issue with me getting in, I just wanted to make sure I would be able to take A&P 2 without being totally lost! Thanks for your input! :)
  7. Good morning!:) Fall 2009 I finished A&P 1 with a C. I'm planning on taking part 2 in the spring after taking Micro this fall. Would you re-take 1 if it's been 2 years? I feel as though I've forgotten it all and that I would be totally lost in 2! Thanks!
  8. Thanks for the support, I knew I could find it here! It's just difficult seeing someone get accepted when I want it more than anything and I know I can get in. I keep telling myself that next year will be better for me anyways so I can finish up all the non-nursing classes before I start the actual program. Hopefully that will ease up some of the stress in nursing school! Thanks everyone! :heartbeat
  9. Evening AN :) Guess I just need to vent to people who actually understand! So last yr I was accepted to the ADN program and passed it up bc of my husbands deployment. This year comes along and I don't apply bc I wasn't ready to put my youngest in daycare. Now I find out that a friend of a friend who was waitlisted got her acceptance letter, and now I'm regretting my decision to hold off another year. That could've been my spot! I've been a stay at home mom for 9 years now...my kids are getting older and I feel like I want a career of my own. And I feel like I just threw it out the window. I'm sad and jealous that she got in. I know I could've gotten in (cutoff was 72 pts, I have 87), and I think that's why I'm so hung up. Guess this fall I'll be finishing up Micro and A&P 2 so I don't have to take them while in nursing school. Anyways, just wanted to vent here bc no one else (even the hubby) seems to understand why this bums me out. Thanks for listening!
  10. mattmrn, Where are you going to school? I too am in NC... at Wayne Community College. Planning on taking Micro in the fall!
  11. Hello everyone! Hoping for a little advice! I'm enrolled at my local community college finishing up pre-reqs for the nursing program. Problem is, I don't know which one to take! Last year, I applied and was accepted to the ADN program. I ended up declining the position because my husband was deploying and I have 3 little ones to care for. Anyways, fast forward to now, I didn't make the deadline to apply to the same program this year (I moved back home while hubby was away). So, I applied to the LPN program. Still waiting to hear on that one. Here's my dilemma. I want my BSN asap. There are several great RN-BSN programs in my area. If i get accepted to LPN, should I take it and work my way up? LPN would start this fall and end next summer. Then the bridge program starts the following summer, so I'd graduate with my ADN summer 2013. Or should I just apply for RN next year and finish my BSN pre-reqs while waiting (I have 6 classes left). Either way I'll graduate in 2013. I'm confident I'll get in to the RN program bc of the point count (this year's cutoff was 72, I have an 89). Which route would you take? I'm afraid if I do LPN, I won't have time to do the pre-reqs while in school for that, plus working and going back for RN seems like a lot! Thanks for any advice!!!
  12. A&P is so hard for me to get! Our first test over cells I got a 70. Our next one is over histology and I'm getting nervous!!! I was hoping it was going to get easier, but we started bones this week and having to memorize all the markings and every freakin bone is scary! Good luck to everyone, this class is a killer!
  13. Hello all, This is my first time posting, and I am looking for some helpful advise from you all. I am pursuing a career in nursing. I live in a community that doesn't offer a BSN program, only an ADN and LPN. My goal is to complete a masters. I have 3 small children, so I know that this will not happen quickly. Anyways, I'm not able to enter the ADN program this fall because we just moved to the area and unfortunately have missed some deadlines. My question is, should I start the LPN program this fall to finish it by the end of summer 09, finish up pre-reqs then go on to the advance standing program (LPN to ADN) summer 2010 and finish 3 semesters later, or wait till Fall 2009 and go directly into the ADN program? Thanks in advance for the input!
