I just went to my first class today.

Almost no lecture on Chapter 1, just a powerpoint handout.

70% of the tests come from that and the rest is from thin air I suppose. I was warned about this. He says the rest will be "critical thinking". That means we have to teach ourselves how to apply the material. What is up with teachers not "teaching" anymore? My last teacher was like this and it was just guessing on part of the test.

Does anyone have to use something called a PRS clicker in their class? We are required to have one, and after checking online, I have no clue what this thing is used for. Can anyone shed some light on this?

i have used it in my human bio course (last semester) it's this handheld remote every student has with an on/off button and buttons for choices A,B,C,D,E..during lecture our prof would slap a question into the powerpoint and we are able to answer anymously (sorry too lazy to check for spelling); our teacher liked it b/c she was able to see if the majority was understanding the material, and if not go over the stuff again. and i liked it as a student to answer w/o the embarassment of answering incorrectly.

i start classes jan 21..

on a side note anyone having difficultly trying to find their textbook cheaper online? the ISBN i'm looking for is: 9780077361341

it's 207 bucks at school and it's sold out on many websites: amazon,ebay,barnesandnoble,textbooks.com...etc..

any suggestions on other sites to check?

would rather not rent (since i need it for a&p 2) and no use buying ebooks..

thanks in advance and good luck to everyone w/classes so far :D

That Hole's book is available online for around $125. Not very cheap, but cheaper than $207. My A & P book was $215 at the bookstore but I found it online for $50, including shipping.

I have to pay for school and books myself (second degree) and I always comb the internet for cheapers books. One tip you can try is buying an older edition. My A & P instructor says an older edition is usually fine as long as its not too old. My edition is 8th and he said 7th or maybe even 6th would be fine.

Just a couple of ideas. Good luck!

Make sure you dont need to buy several books , because buying them seperate was the same price as at my book store. I have a text, 3 other books and a CD that are required.

That wasn't true for me. I needed 4 books for my A & P class. They were $293 plus tax at the bookstore. I got all 4 of them online from different sellers for $68 including tax and shipping.

ppl that have been in the class for a week... any advice or stuff you could give to start studying? start in like 3 weeks

So far the material hasn't been overwhelming at all but I can see it getting difficult if one didn't keep up studying and doing the various assignments. In sum the key phrase is "no procrastination with studying."

You can call me Sing, I don't post my name online...

a. I'm taking 17 credits...A&P, world civ, English, religion, philosophy, music

b. I'm not really looking forward to A&P at all. This will be my second shot at it since my professor last semester was awful and I withdrew, and it's an 8:30 class MWF. At least I know that I'll be able to do well on the first practical since I did a decent job last semester, and I remember a good chunk of it.

c. I did last year. My school has a direct entry joint program with a hospital's school of nursing, so in your senior year of high school, you apply to both schools and if you're accepted then as long as you pass the prereqs your first year you start nursing classes your second.

d. I'm one of 9 kids!

Definitely stay on top of EVERYTHING. Read the text - ask here (or your professor) on anything you don't understand. I've gotten behind already, and this weekend is going to be my huge catch-up for all six (yes, six) of my classes.

It's really not that bad, just time-consuming. So far, though, it's giving me the most worry out of my classes - I think it's because of all the horror stories I've heard. Hmm...get a binder. Put all your notes in the binder - use that to review. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. :lol2:

My school advertises tutoring in the study center and I have just found out there is none. The teachers didnt even know and they told us the first day there was tutor available for questions. Also , I asked my teacher and he is not getting an SI or student instructor to help us by answering questions , etc.
