a. How many credits you are taking next semester
b. What part of A&P 1 you are looking forward to, are you nervous?
c. How long you have to apply?
d. Some random thing about you?
Lets gooooooo................
Check this thread for some amazing notes by a member.... Polka-dot.(You Rock!!)...for notes on A&P....and welcome to anatomy heaven...:)

I wish I had gotten thru the first 2 chapters before I showed up to class. I only read chapter 1 and had not memorized it. I have noticed so many people in my class already know a lot of this information. I know some of it, but I have never had Anatomy before. A girl in my lab said today this was just review!! When I was in high school we didnt have Anatomy and Chem was only for the gifted. I graduated in 89 and only got what is a 10th grade education today .

At my school, one of the pre-requisite options was kind of a "mini A&P class" called Human Biology. It went over all the systems (and all the cellular stuff) at a slightly lower level, so it's possible to come into A&P recognizing a bunch of stuff.
I have 100 pages of reading so far from philosophy and religion. And then chapter 1 of anatomy I'll have to go over (won't have to actually read in its entirety though because I did last semester and I have notes on it) along with memorizing a whole bunch (4 pages) of prefixes and suffixes for an extra credit quiz...and I'm sure I'll have some English assignment as well, but I don't have that class til this afternoon.
But anyway, I had my first A&P class this morning. The prof seems like she'll be fine which is what I've heard about her. She lectures, and uses powerpoints and will give us 4 tests. I definitely think that I'll be able to get a B in the class because she told us that she makes the tests difficult, has low averages on them, but then adjusts the grades and adds points so that the mean ends up in the 70s. And she doesn't believe in pluses or minuses, so if you have a 70 it's a C, an 80 is a B, a 90 is an A. I had about a 70 when I dropped last semester, and that was with an instructor who didn't teach, so I feel confident about doing well this semester.
indeed i hear ppl whom failed say study the bones and how the vessels flow throgh them.... also study the rat anatomy and cat antomy ill keep you posted when i learn more
Well...here, A&P is broken up into three quarter. First quarter is basically intro, chemistry chapter, cell chapter, bones, integumentary system, and muscles. Second quarter...I'm not exactly sure what it goes over, but I know it has the nervous system and I /think/ the endocrine system...third quarter's got cardiovascular, urinary, and the rest of the "systems" are broken between the second two quarters (two and three). Our first test is next Tuesday and it's over two and a bit chapters. I don't know about studying rat or cat anatomy, though...my CC is super-lucky to have cadavers, and while I've heard we do eventually dissect things, I think, we go cadaver-only once we hit muscles.
So it really depends on the school.
To SingRunDanceLife: Yeah, I don't have super-much reading to do (well...okay, I do, I just ignore it) it's mostly studying that I need to do - we have study guides, etcetc, and I need to get those /done/. Please, guys, who have just started who are starting soon...don't let yourself fall behind. Very, very bad idea. ...I still have hope for acing this class, though. I'm a fairly smart cookie which is all that's saving mah booty.
Im on Chapter 3 in my Marieb book. I really wish I had a tutor for all these cell membrane parts and their function. Very detailed information and for the most part I am a bit baffled with how the majority of this is going to come into play later. Are these ongoing issues or are they glossed over and forgotten later on?
yeah, I did a double take when I saw that too. 6 classes!Im just overwhelmed taking Anatomy.
Question about studying.
Our teacher says that memorizing is only part of the test, we have to apply the info too. Im not sure how we are supposed to "understand" the material, he doesnt tell us in so many words the way to apply this information.
Any advice?
My professor says the same thing! Well pretty much you need to understand it, not just memorize what it means. Don't just memorize the terms in membrane potential, but understand why it happens ,what it does, how it works and the connections to other processes and ect..
Its very hard to learn things this way :/ And it'll take a lot of time and investigating.

]My class starts on Monday, 1 Feb, but I'm gearing up and ready to go. I do have an advanced copy of the syllabus and it looks like we have a quiz on the first 2-3 chapters during the second week. Based on what I'm hearing, you guys are on point by keeping up with the work and not getting behind. I truly feel this thread gives us an advantage; we have each other. So, I'm in til the end! Please keep me posted and I'll check back in with you guys later. Stay strong and study long. :)
