I went today and put a down payment on my Spring 2009 semester which has A&P 1 (Chem and Dietary Nutrition too) and it got me thinking. For a while now, I have been saving up websites and links about A&P and I thought I could share what I have. Please feel free to add to the list...

I started last week. After syllabus we got a lecture on tissue types. Homework was memorizing regions of the body and directional terms. The next class we did a lab of memorizing the bones, sutures, sinuses and fontanels of the skull. I'm doing ok so far, but this is a lot already.

Wow that does sound like a lot. I will let you guys know what I end up doing on Monday for lecture.

my ap1 prof said there will be 4 exams in his class.. first one is in about 2 weeks from now...

OMG my first test lecture exam is next week on Monday and the Lab quiz is Wedensday! I hope I do well. I cant remember some of the terminology! Yeah we have 4 exams too and we have a cummulative final that we cant exempt from, but at least the lab exam is optional and if we do take it then it can replace the lowest lab quiz grade. Good luck everybody!

My first test is next Thursday. It was supposed to be Tuesday but we had an ice storm and it was cancelled. Right now we are going over homeostasis, the body regions and cavities, and some medical terms. We are in our 3rd week and I"m hoping I've not bitten off more than I can chew. I work full time and I'm taking 2 classes at college. It doesn't sound like much when I look at it written down, but I feel like I'm constantly working on school. I'm glad to be taking the classes but I hope I can pull off a really good grade so I stand a chance to get into a nursing program. It is scarey to think of all this work put into it and not even getting into a program:confused:

Gee, I'm kinda jealous of all of you that get to dive right into body cavities and such, lol. Unit 1 for us is about Major themes of AP1, 2 - Chemistry of Life, 3 - Cellular Form & Function, 4 - Genetics & cell function. 5 we finally get Histology. We did get an Atlas A that was on general orientation of the human body, but that was exciting as it got. We finally get into the systems in the 6th unit. My prof is big on us 'knowing' rather than memorizing. Here is an example of my Assignment for unit 2 "The unique properties (characteristics) of water make life possible on Earth. In a 1-2 page paper (min 250 words) select three properties of water and for each property, identify and define the property and explain it in terms of the physical/chemical nature of water. Also, for each property, describe one example of how the property affects the functioning of living organisms". YIKES!

You should see our learning journal - its all critical thinking questions! We chose 4 from about 9 questions and answer them (What is the molecular mass of a molecule of glucose? How did you calculate it?) Oh, in the learning journal though there is something really cool, its called the case study; she gives us background info and then asks questions why. For example, a boy has vomitted and had diarrheal stools for 3 days and has no other symptoms (short version of course). Then it asks if pH were tested in the vomitus would you expect it to be more acidic or basic? Why? We are also asked to teach his mother about appropriate fluid replacement solutions for patients with vomitting, what would you suggest. There are more questions too. This is the part I like the most about it, she is already training us to think critically. All the writing sucks, but I really do like this class.

I know where you are coming from labchic - I am constantly worrying about my grades. I have 1 program I am applying to, there aren't any others around where I will be in a year. They have 172 students on about 3 or 4 campuses. That means I am competing for one slot of about 40 - OMG!! This semester has two of my 'hardest' classes AP1 and Chem (well, *I* think their hard). I still have 7 prereqs to get through and just as panicky. I just try to focus on the next assignment and the next quiz. If I think too far ahead I get discouraged and disorientated. I don't work FT, but I homeschool my kids and my son is being very difficult this year, I feel like I am constantly super stressed (other stuff too, btw). I am sure you will do great, and as the saying goes, if there's a will, there's a way. Go girl!!

We were supposed to have our first test next Tuesday (we meet once per week), but we also had a class cancellation due to ice storms. So, it buys me a little time to go over the chapters again and review my note cards. So far, we have covered definitions, positions and the chemistry stuff. Definitely going to be challenging...it seems like we cover so much in one class period.

Our first lecture was pretty simple, we went over the basics which of course was nice, and today my class was canceled due to snow, yay! haha. Some of my classmates and I are already putting a study group together :]

one of the downsides of online classes - no cancellations! :p

this is our 3rd week of class and we are on integumentary system. this is another of my 8 week classes, so we move pretty quick. i can post examples of the critical thinking questions we get if anyone is interested...

TopCat, how is anatomy online going for you? I plan on taking a&p 2 + micro online in the summer as long as things go okay for a&p 1 and I was just wondering how you're getting along with it?

Sure post away! :]

Thanks for the positive message Sand Dollar. I'm sure you will do fine too!!

And TopCat...I'd like to see your critical thinking questions. Anything I can do or see to help me out in the long run would be great!!! Gotta go review for tomorrow. I've studied so much I almost feel like I can't study anymore, but then everytime I go over the chapter I find something else I need to remember. Aaacckkk!!!
