A&P 1 Spring 2012 Check-in

Published

Hi all!

How is everyone doing? Our semester started later than most so we are having our first test tomorrow. I know many of you have already had your first test, how did you do?

We have a test tomorrow then on tuesday. I think tomorrow will be the 'easier' of the two tests because it is the lab test which is on the anatomical terms and the integumentary system.

At first I thought I'd never be able to memorize all the anatomical terms for the parts of the body. sural? crural? acromial? what?! but I got them down.

I certainly hope that is going to be my lowest score. My next test in Lecture will be in 2 or 3 weeks I think. In lab we don't have any test, but we do have a weekly quiz. Whats the worst part is that on all of the quizes i got all "A"s.

I think it's the multiple choice questions that trip me up, Becuase my Lab test are all fill in the blank or looking in a microscope. I'm going to talk to my professor to see if there is anything that she recommends for me.

We just had our first major exam in my anatomy class last Monday, and b/c the prof was sick and hasn't posted the grade, and we only attend lecture/lab once a week, I have yet to see my score. I'm confident I did well, possibly even an A! I'm kinda anal about it, so I get bummed when it's not perfect. Because she was ill we didn't have lecture, we now have to cover bones, bone joints, and muscles all in the same week. Not fun for my poor brain! Plus lab, midterms coming up soon and I'm trying to memorize all the bones and parts of bones. Blech. Just trying to hang in there, I'm sure you know the feeling;) Does anyone have any tricks on how to force the brain to keep plugging away at it when you've been at it for hours at a time and it simply refuses to focus anymore? That's my issue:(

Take a break. Seriously. You can get over-saturated and blank out in your hour of need. Sometimes a reboot or recharge does more good than trying to stuff even more info in. Don't push yourself too hard.

Some days I study really hard, other days I back off and just read over my notes and flip through my flash cards. Finding that delicate balance is the toughest thing of all.

My first test was not the best either. I don't do well with multiple choice. It trips you up. Lab we will have a midterm this coming Friday.

My first test I got a 70, but with the extra credit I got an 80. Thank God for extra credit!

So how's everybody doing? We just took our second test this morning. It covered tissues, the integumentary system, and bones. I didn't do as well as I did on the first exam, but I still scored a high A. I'm pleased and angry with myself at the same time...and it's a weird, confusing feeling. Am I the only one? I mean, I know there are a lot of people who would have been overjoyed to score what I did, so why am I still beating myself up?

We start joints on Wednesday and our next test isn't until March 26th. However, our Lab midterm is March 8th, and it covers everything we've done in lab so far.

I've had all As in A&P up until today. :( Bad grade time for me. But I've been doing all the bonus points, so I still have my A in the class, but boy, I cannot mess up again!

It was the skeletal system and I realize I just didn't study the right way for this particular exam. Now I know, although that's the hard way to learn a lesson!

Ladylynn6, I totally feel you. I got a 97 on my first exam, and was actually upset until I realized how silly I was being. Did I really think I'd go through the entire program and NEVER miss a point? Well, actually, yes. Thats what I was hoping for. Seriously, for me, I'm a perfectionist. I put the most pressure on myself and frankly, a perfect score wouldn't be good enough. BUT...lab midterm is this monday, and oh boy. Bones. I'm kinda worried about this one, I haven't had a lot of time to study with everything going on in my other classes, and my family stuff. And everytime I try something pops up, like our fridge going out:( Midterm time, everything is getting hectic and all my classes are overlapping on exams and what not. Just a couple more years...

Like they say....you ARE your worst critic!:banghead:

I got a 93 on my first A&P exam this semester , a 83 on my second exam, and a 90 on my lab exam.

So far we've done Nervous system I: Nerve classification, Nervous System II: Senses, and now were in the Nervous System II: Endocrine system....We have a test on the Endocrine this thursday. I'm a little nervous, my second exam I was really slacking because I recently found out I was accepted into nursing school so I've been lazy lol. In the midst of my celebration I failed to study. But usually I do pretty well on the exams:)

If anyone can tell me how intense the muscles will be that would be great! I've skimmed the pages and it seems like a lot more than the bones. Any tips on how to memorize the muscles???

I'd be interested in the answer to this, as well. The unit we start tomorrow includes joints, muscles, and the nervous system. Just looking over the lecture notes, PowerPoints, and online tutorials make it all seem so overwhelming.
