A&P 1 Spring 2012 Check-in

Published

Hi all!

How is everyone doing? Our semester started later than most so we are having our first test tomorrow. I know many of you have already had your first test, how did you do?

We have a test tomorrow then on tuesday. I think tomorrow will be the 'easier' of the two tests because it is the lab test which is on the anatomical terms and the integumentary system.

At first I thought I'd never be able to memorize all the anatomical terms for the parts of the body. sural? crural? acromial? what?! but I got them down.

Ladylynn6, I totally feel you. I got a 97 on my first exam, and was actually upset until I realized how silly I was being. Did I really think I'd go through the entire program and NEVER miss a point? Well, actually, yes. Thats what I was hoping for. Seriously, for me, I'm a perfectionist. I put the most pressure on myself and frankly, a perfect score wouldn't be good enough.

PHEW! You don't know how relieved I am to hear I'm not the only one. I get a 97 on a test, and I still hear my father's voice in the back of my head asking where the other three points went. Except nowadays, that voice is starting to sound less like my father and more like my own.

BUT...lab midterm is this monday, and oh boy. Bones. I'm kinda worried about this one, I haven't had a lot of time to study with everything going on in my other classes, and my family stuff. And everytime I try something pops up, like our fridge going out:( Midterm time, everything is getting hectic and all my classes are overlapping on exams and what not. Just a couple more years...

Isn't that always the way of it? Life always insists on jumping in and making everything more difficult.

I'm constantly hearing Dory from "Finding Nemo" in my head: Just keep swimming.

Like they say....you ARE your worst critic!:banghead:

Ain't it the truth? Then again, it is what keeps me pushing.

I feel this exact way! I got a 98% on my first lecture test and was a bit disappointed. I think I need to work on my expectations.

As for my class, lab/lecture lest #2 will be next Wednesday, which will cover bone tissue, bones and joints. My teacher likes to set up random bones at stations around the room, and without touching the bones, you have to answer the questions. We still have to finish up lecture tomorrow on joints. I am so happy that our teacher is not doing a midterm or a formal final, only the unit lecture/lab test. That helps a ton. We are then moving on to muscles next and he told us that would be hard. I think that is when we get introduced to the cat. I keep remembering what my biology teacher last semester told us: The current test you are taking is always the hardest and the test you took two weeks ago will seem easy and you will not know what the fuss was about.

I'm also a perfectionist when it comes to grades. When I got a 96, I was somewhat disappointed and I tried to argue one of the answers and the teacher kind of nodded yes but it wasn't the answer she was looking for. The other question was just me mis-remembering something.

We are going over bones and have our test next week. It is pretty intense. To not only know all the bones but also the various parts of the bones. It seems like each bone has at least 10 things you need to remember about it. The skull alone is dizzying.

which school is this? Most in GA require completion of A & P 1-2 to apply at all....:redlight:

I'm jumping in a little late in the game, but I'm taking A&P 1 this semester, too! Got an A on the first test. Had the "lab practical" last night. Our school's slides are horrible. I can differentiate amoung the different muscles in the text and atlas, but the slides? Forget about it. Thankfully there was only about 15 slides to identify. So maybe I got a high B, low A (I'm with all you perfectionists - a high B is not acceptable!) Our professor is slow with giving back test grades so I'll probably know next week. Ugh!

Another test next week.

Good luck everyone!

well i really screwed up on my lecture exam essay.. it said name an example of muscle tissue.. i put fibrocartilage:banghead:

{{{hugs}}}} just make sure you do better next time!

we've got our lab midterm next week, so my study partners and i went into open lab today. it was packed! there were at least 3x as many students in there today as there were last friday. we stayed from 9am-2pm (from open to close today) and got a lot done. i'm so proud of us! this weekend, i'll be going over my lab drawings and continuing to study for that lab midterm. it's really got me wound up.

No other A&P I students want to check in? I'm disappointed. :: pout pout ::

We had our lab midterms this week; mine was yesterday. I got an A! This coming week is our spring break. On the advice of my lecture teacher, I'll be learning the muscles. The more familiar with them I am when we go back to class, the better off I'll be. :clown:

Apparently our next unit in lab is the cat dissection. I was very concerned about how I'd handle that until I saw one of the dissected cats in Open Lab. It didn't look very cat-like (as in pet cat), so I wasn't as freaked out as I thought I'd be. Although that little tongue sticking out was a little disturbing.

Come on, everybody! Check in. Let us know how you're doing. Share your successes. Ask for help with stuff you might be having trouble with.

Been too busy studying! We had our lab exam last night and I kicked butt. There was one slide (spongy tissue) that I wasn't positive about and I should've checked my lab notes prior so I might've got that wrong. Spring break is next week, then we have our second lecture exam after. Feel prett confident in the bones and joints though.

We're just returning from Spring Break at my school, so we're on the home stretch. I'm doing well in lecture; aced the first exam and only missed 1 on the second exam. Our 3rd exam will be in a couple of weeks. Lab is a bit more difficult, but I'm doing well in it. I got a B+ on the 1st lab exam and we have our 2nd one coming up soon. Lots of memorization for lab - that's where we focus on the specifics of bones & muscle names and functions. Lecture focuses on the physiological aspects of the tissues/organs. Sometimes it seems like we're taking two different courses, because of how our labs & lectures are structured, but overall, I think the stuff we're learning is fascinating! It's really amazing what our bodies can do and how everything works together to keep us alive.

Oh, and, if you can, DO take advantage of any tutoring/study groups you can. The more you review and talk about the material, the more it "sticks" in your brain.

I got an 88 on my first exam and I have 100 on all quizzes. The problem I have is my instructor keeps leading us down these rabbit holes of such and such WILL be on the test know it completely and then she never tests over it. But she had a 20 point labeling question over something we never covered. I have two previous degrees and I have never had a professor do this before. For the next exam I will let common sense prevail and evenly distribute my time.

@kmlnielsen: Yes, my teacher does that, too. For example, he will mention the syndesmoses of the tibia and fibula a dozen times, reiterating that it will indeed be on the test... And yet, no test question.

On topic: I'm doing great on all the quizzes and homework assignments in my class. We'll see about the test, as we only have a midterm and a final exam. I won't get my grade til the end of next week. I am so anxious, especially after reading my hybrid class' discussion boards. There are many people who sincerely believed they failed. Hopefully I wasn't one of them. :icon_roll
