A&P I: The Summer '05 Anatomy and Physiology Club

Published

Okay, so am I the only one crazy enough to be taking this during the summer?:uhoh21:

I've been so excited to finally get to take part in one of these things.

Anyways, school starts June 6 here. I bought my texts Wednesday (Marieb: Text and Study Guide-6th Edition; Lab-Cat Version-8th edition), and am pretty comfortable with Chapter One. I love the website, although it looks like my Prof won't be using the "My Anatomy" stuff. boo.

Can't wait to get this thread rolling. How is everyone else feeling?

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to get into A&P I this summer. Add/Drop will be on June 26. I hope I get in!

I just finished Chem II. To me, that was the HARDEST class that I have ever taken! I am so glad it is over.

I am really impressed with the great grades I see here. Congrats to all of you! I know how hard it is to keep them up.

I am currently at University of West Georgia. I will be able to apply for the nursing program in the fall!!!! YYYIIIIPPPPPPPEEEE!!

I just started my Anatomy/Physiology class yesterday and we had our first quiz today. I got a 7 out of 10. I would have done better but I didn't have a flash drive. In my class we have no text book. We do everything on the computer. Students are encouraged to bring a laptop to class. I bought a stick today and took it to class and downloaded all the teacher's material for the week. I vow to do better on my next quiz. We take a quiz every day and a big test at the end of every week. Our test is on Thursday.

My teacher is great! He is so interesting! He's really funny and makes the class laugh all the time. I like learning thru visuals on the powerpoint instead of reading a textbook. It saves us money too.

I'm not afraid to take this class becuase someone posted that they took it in the summer and got an A and said it was totally doable. I said well if he can do it then so can I.

I am just so excited to finally be taking the Anatomy class. I am really on my way now! I'm so glad to finally be a part of the Anatomy/physiolgy 1 thread! Woot!

I am also taking this class this summer! My class is using the 6th ed. of Martini's textbook and the 8th ed. of Marieb's lab book. I just got finished with A&P I finally! I started A&P II yesterday. I know it's tough and it's hard doing it in the summer but it's worth it and everyone can do it!! I just remind myself that I'd rather do it all in a total of 8 weeks than two regular semesters of it! What really helps me get through is after every lecture, I come home and make flash cards of everything! Just keep positive and remember it's going to be worth it in the end! If God brings you to it, he'll bring you through it!

I agree with you :p about although we are taking this class in the summer it is totally worth it. It is very difficult especially with the family and summer activities usually available that time of year.

In my case this is my second summer going to school year round without a break. The only break was in December (2 short weeks of Christmas vacation).

I actually enjoy school during the summer because most choose to take it off, so the classes are alot smaller and for me that is a good thing.

Have a good day everyone :)

Yikes there is so much chemistry in Anatomy class I can't believe it! :uhoh3: The teacher calls it biochemistry. It seems most of what we do is chemistry and some biology with a little anatomy thrown in. It is really hard. :crying2: I have the big test on Monday so will have to see how I do then.

Plus my instructors grading method is unfair. He sets it like this. 95-100 is an A. 85-95 is a B 75-85 is a C. Two of my quizzes were 70 which have been marked as D's and would have been C's in any other person's class. My grades are with the majority of the class. Nope as a matter of fact I checked and most students are getting F's. This does not bode well for the future.

Do any of you have a lot of chemistry involved in your anatomy course? Here it is the pre-requisite for anatomy/physiology. I took chemistry about a year ago and it sure helps!

If I had a different instructor it sure would have been better. This one is entertaining and fun and I learn a lot but he just grades too hard.

Yes, there is a lot of Chemistry at the beginning. It will slowly go away later on in the book. My school requires Chemistry before A&P1 and now can see why too :)

His grading system is very similar to that of my instructors. The only good thing is that we have a quiz at the beginning of every Lab and a practical every other week. So, if you bomb one usually it doesn't hurt you as much.

Good luck with you and hand in there :p

Do NOT give up :nono:

Im taking A&P I now and I will agree it has a lot of chemistry in it. I also realized how much the info Ive learned in previous classes has been brought up throughout the class. For example, we were talking about dendrites and neurons, which I learned in Psych, we talked about the skin, which was a refresher from Micro.

Im sorry your professor is so harsh with his grades. 95-100 A :uhoh21: 85-95 B thats rough. You sounded so excited in your first post, then I read the second. :o just keep making your flashcards and trying your hardest. Maybe the professor will realize how unfair he is being before the end of the class. I wish you the best of luck (with a professor like him you are going to need it)

Is Anatomy a separate class from Physiology? I thought that both were taught at the same time (at least at my school you take Anatomy & Physiology I then take A&P II, both combine lecture with lab)........Or does it vary school to school?

As for your test, you will be fine. Just try to study from now until then and you will be surprised. Come back and tell us how it went. :p

The best of luck to you my friend,

Jessica

I got a 88!!! Its amazing!!! I studied for 2 1/2 hrs before the test (literally class starts at 6p I started studying at 330 after work). I was mad at first like "if i would have studied it could have been a A" but Ill suck it up Its still a great grade.

Now its off to study the hundreds of muscles for Mondays practical and the 5 chapters for the final test on Thursday...........then its 3 days of no A*P then back to the book 6-27

Hope all is well with your class........

Hello everyone, Sure wish i had seen this thread earlier. I started A&P I on May 21. I have not found it to be that hard as of yet, but we are just now starting on the bones. YIKES!! Actually I think how hard a subject is depends on the Professor. We study 3 chapters, and then take a test over it. Also we will not have an actual final over all that we covered. It is looking like I have a pretty good chance of being accepted in the LVN program in the fall. They will go on my PSB score, which i made a 14 out of 18 pts; my nutrition score, which I have an A (4 pts) and my A&P I which i hope to have an A. that would give me 22 pts out of a possible 26 pts, which they say ppl rarely get. Of course that is just to get accepted into the program, and is dependant upone passing the other core classes. Does anyone elses school work like this?

This class is SO demanding. Don't get me wrong, I love the subject and I am amazed by it. I am enjoying learning, but I have to cram so much information in such a short time! My first test covers 4 chapters which include basic chemistry, cytology, histology and anatomical terms. My teacher is most unhelpful whenever I ask him questions and seems to have something against me (he isn't as curt with other students). It's ok I suppose because now I've gone from wanting to get an A to fiercely wanting to be the best darned student in the class just to get under his skin. I'm not sure what his problem is with me, except I didn't laugh at his joke the first lab.

The next test will cover 5 chapters AND he told us that our lab test will include going to the microscope to view slides and having to write exactly what kind of tissue we see and where it is found in the body. The slids look so diff. from the pics in the book and the lab notes. I always figured A &P would be the easiest of my science courses. If this is the easiest this journey is gonna be much harder than I anticipated. I'm even more determined that ever to succeed, but I'm so scared at the same time.

I searched for different types of tissue pics online. The more you see, the more you can identify. (Just in case he puts some new ones out for your lab practical.)

Also, my website: nursingjourney DOT com has some pics, and other quizzes.

I can see where it would be extra demanding during the summer. (I'm taking Micro right now, and it's a &(#*@!!!!!)

Good luck!

Hey well I'm just about to take my Anatomy cumulative final this week..Yikes!!! But overall it's been not an unpleasent experience. I think what it comes down to is the teacher. If they are good it does a world of difference. Well anyway the school i'm taking my prereqs at has a great website for all the bones, cat organs , arteries etc and Slides...Check it out it really helped me out for my lab practicals....Hope it helps......http://207.103.163.2/biology/

Just wanted to let you know I know how you feel. My class is only 5 weeks long and we have to learn almost 20 chapters, :uhoh3: which means about 5-6 chapters per test and one test per week not including practicals. I feel your pain......

The good thing is Thursday is the last day of A&P I for me, but I start A&P II on Monday :crying2:

I wish you the best of luck.
