Okay, so am I the only one crazy enough to be taking this during the summer?:uhoh21:
I've been so excited to finally get to take part in one of these things.
Anyways, school starts June 6 here. I bought my texts Wednesday (Marieb: Text and Study Guide-6th Edition; Lab-Cat Version-8th edition), and am pretty comfortable with Chapter One. I love the website, although it looks like my Prof won't be using the "My Anatomy" stuff. boo.
Can't wait to get this thread rolling. How is everyone else feeling?
Sounds like we're all crazy! :rotfl: I'm also trying to get all the prereqs and whatever other classes I can get before the May 2006 deadlines. I just hope my grades are good enough!
lol Some programs here require certain classes before applying, some don't, some require different classes than others, others run on point systems, others give preference to county residents... I pray I can get into a program soon! Thankfully there are several to choose from around here. It's just a matter of which prereqs I'll take since they're slightly different for each school, because the classes I have (or don't have) limits my options. Can you hear me screaming?
How did you choose which program(s) you'll apply to?

Tiffany,
There's only one nursing program at my school, so that elimnated the possibility for applying to any other program. What all are you taking during the summer semester?
I just applied for the work study program at my school.
Keep in touch, and good luck!

Thanks! By different programs, I meant different programs at different schools, not at the same school. Michigan State University, University of Michigan, UofM Flint, Eastern Michigan University, Wayne State University, University of Detroit Mercy, Madonna University, Oakland University, and a few community colleges are all in this area. Granted, they're all approximately an hour from me, but all within reach. I currently drive 50 minutes each way for A&P, am taking a history class online which will be done soon, and will be taking Medical Terminology online once my history class is done. I may add another class besides that one but haven't decided yet.
I haven't registered for fall yet because I'll be taking classes at a community college as well as EMU. I'm just trying to line it up so I can apply to several programs in May, which means taking more than I would need to if I was only applying at EMU. (That's where I have most of my credits already.) The competition for the nursing program is high here, so I want to apply to several schools to increase my chances of acceptance.
How are things going for you?

i took the a&p this past spring and got an a in both the lecture and lab. what really helped me was a book i bought called anatomy for dummies. i swear i felt like a kid again but it really helped me get through the course with a better understanding of the course. it had a lot of coloring-lol :chuckle
note cards helped me study too. i was able to focus on what i really didn't know and weed out what i did. hope this helps! the people who are taking this course in the summer are very brave and good luck!
Hi Everyone! I am getting pre-reqs out of the way and this is the first (of many) sciences. I suck at math, but I've always LOVED biology so I look forward to all the biology courses (chemistry has me shaking in my boots). I'm also working hard, hard, hard to get my math skills up to par and hopefully even excel one day.
Anyway my classes start June 6 and the textbook is Anatomy and Physiology Vol. 1 (6th edition) by seeley Stephens and Tate and the lab book is Anatomy and Physiology by Robert Keating and Wiersema. My class is being taught by an M.D., I'm not sure if that's gonna be a good thing or a bad thing. I'm a perfectionist so I'm striving for an A. I'm nervous as all get out though. I'm also taking a cultural anthropology class.
Hi everyone!
SeekingNur, I hear you about chemistry! I had a chemistry class (a fundamentals class intended for those majoring in chemistry) my freshman year (1996) and barely got a C in lecture, even though I had an A in lab. I just didn't understand it, and I continually asked my teacher for help, who always said, "It's in the book." Of course, if that happened now, I'd go for tutoring or something, but then I never even considered it an option. I'm sure you'll do well! I think discipline is probobly the determining factor - something which I did NOT have when I was in school before. Good luck! We're here if you need anything. :)
STBCooperRN, Thank you for the tip! I bet it was a fun book!
Jessica, how are things going for you?
Where is everyone else? How are you doing? Too busy studying??? :rotfl:
I had my first test on Tuesday and just got the results back last night. The average score was 76%. (My prof said that's a high average, especially for the first test.) I got an A! I can't believe it! I also got a 100% on the lab practical. I really can't believe it. I'm so happy! Now, to make sure I continue that trend... :uhoh21: I just don't want to let anyone down, myself included. I NEED to do well, I'm taking time away from my family to do this.
Hope you're all staying sane!

Im a little late joining the club!! But I too am in the crazy group. Im taking A&P I and A&P II this summer first session 5/23-6/23 then a nice three day break and second session 6/27-7/28. What a great way to spend our summer!! Im taking the summer courses in hopes that someone drops Nursing I this fall so I can start this fall instead of next fall. Lets see what happens. I took my first test last night and it was the opposite of what I thought. It was so easy. Out of four possible answers two are completely off and the third would be all or none of the above. It was great. My professor is wonderful. Hope all is well for the rest of you.
We start bones, joints, muscles, and skeleton on Monday. Practical on Thursday (this should be fun learning 208.... is that how many there are?...bones in a few days) maybe Ill start looking on my own tonight.
I take my A & P test at Sylvian testing center this coming Monday. I have memorized all the hormones. They say the test is mainly physiology, so I have had to concentrate quite heavily on that. If any of you have tested for Excelsior in this class and can give me any tips I would appreciate them.

I am also crazy as a loon and taking A&P1 this summer. Mine also starts June 6, and I am soooo nervous. This will be my first Biology. All I've had thus far is my first remedial math (have to take two before I can start on College Alegebra), English 101, Philosophy, and a required computer class. So far my GPA stands at a 4.0, which was kinda hard considering I have two small boys(5 and 1). I do have to give credit to my very supportive husband, who lets me stay at home and study when I don't have class.
I've got A&P 1 and my second and last remedial math in the summer. Then in the fall, I'm registered for Political Science, College Algebra, A&P 2 and Microbiology!!!! AHHH!!!!
Trying to get these core classes out of the way by April 2006 so that I can apply for the nursing program.
As I said in my introduction post, I am working on my associates right now, but I am a transfer student. Once I've graduated from the nursing program, I will go back to work, and at night I'll take my classes so that I can get my BSN. :rotfl: I'm sooooooooo crazy.
After that, I plan on getting my master's. What am I thinking?
I think I may want to go into Pediatrics...anyone have any comments about that?
Looking forward to getting to know all you guys,
Rachel
