ok to all you old head school nurse had the secretary to bring a child back to see me stating she has a hole in her pants ok didn't know I was the person to handle that so not use to nonemergency situation ugh

Tthe best i can do in a situation like that is hand the student a safety pin. While I do sew, those skills are reserved for home, not work.

I keep a stock of safety pins and duct tape. You would be amazed at what I've learned to do with duct tape :) They sure don't teach you that in nursing school, lol! Necessity is the mother of invention :yes:

Tape is a marvel!

But I also run the clothing closet at my school. Student's wear uniforms here, so I collect old uniforms in good conditions for parents when kids outgrow them or graduate to stock the closet.

LOL! Just wait... I have kids sent to me ALL THE TIME, to have flip flops fixed, holes in clothes repaired, glasses fixed, etc... They also send them in to use the phone for forgotten lunchboxes, homework folders, you name it. I find myself frequently saying, this is not a nursing specialty but I will do my best to help you out.

OMG, the shoe repairs! Why do teachers think that fixing broken shoes is purely a nurse's job? Glasses, I understand, I do keep the repair kits in my office, but I'm no cobbler!

I am in high school this year, so the kids get my joking around.

I had a student come through my door asking if I knew how to sew? My response was...I did not go to Nursing School so I could sew student's pants. He just started laughing, I handed him a safety pin and sent him to the restroom.
