Summer 2017 Chat

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi there! This thread is for anyone, anywhere that wants to chat about summer courses they are taking. This is our THIRD iteration of semester chat!

What's your schedule like this summer? Any TEAS or HESI preppers?

I'm taking three courses over 5 weeks. Texas Government (online), Chem II (lecture only, on campus) and Music Appreciation (online). School starts for me on June 6, ends July 7.

I'm also taking the TEAS on May 30th, so I'm prepping for that. And all my nursing school applications are due on August 1, so I'm working on that, too.

Hope everyone is well!

xo,

Jen

That's great!!!!

I had a really hard time with stats - I did it online and MyMathLab taught the excel formulas, but the tests were all with calculators and there was no calculator instruction given, so I really struggled. It was my first and only C. I wish I had done better.

Things have been rough over here. My grandfather passed away. He had idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, so he's been sick for a while, but it still felt like a huge blow. We were pretty close. Just trying to hold it together.

My last application is officially submitted, transcripts received (they are being verified now). The deadline is next Tuesday, so I should hear something in 4-6 weeks. I joined a gym to help get some of this weight off, and to establish a fitness routine before I start school. And to distract myself from the anxiety of the waiting.

I hope everyone is well! It's nearly time for a Fall thread.

Sorry about your Grandfather, stay strong girl and remember how proud you make him!

My application due date is August 1st but I won't know where I'm placed until October 1st. Going to the gym totally helps with all the school stress, I kinda fallen of my routine I feel like I don't go enough lately. It's exhausting balancing school and work because when I'm doing neither I just want to eat and sleep. ;(

I have completed all of my pre-reqs and I am getting ready to take the Hesi A2 exam for UNLV in 4 days, very nervous but I studied for two months haha

Math and Micro finals are next Tuesday for me, then Wednesday and a Thursday is orientation for the nursing program!!!! It's finally here!!!! I'm agonizing over what to wear bc I want to look professional, but don't want to look ridiculous if no one else dresses up. Anyone else been to orientation yet? I'm so curious what we need 2 whole days to discuss before classes start.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather, Jen. Losing grandparents is awful. :(

Specializes in ICU Stepdown.

I wore normal clothes to orientation and so did mostly everyone else I saw. It was too early to try and look professional imo. I think I wore a hoodie and jeans.

If you want to be competitive and focus on one science at a time then there's nothing wrong with that. But I woudn't want to take a major prerequisite s ienxe course with the rest of my nursing classes....

Hey! I am still undecided, but leaning towards splitting them up. If I do l am pretty sure l will just take physio first. :)

Im assuming you applied without all of your pre-reqs. Did you apply to unlv? If so do you mind sharing yiur overall score? Thank you

I am done with my summer semester.. I only took Chem, but I pulled off an A!! I got a 94....and I am SO GLAD IT'S OVER. I am going to take the teas on Aug 16th. I still have physio and micro to take, but I think I'll go ahead and still apply in August for spring. It can't hurt, right? Worst case I'll get 10 more points after fall semester because I'll have physio completed, and will apply again for next fall :)

I took the Accuplacer today! Thanks to Khan Academy I PASSED my goal of getting into College Algebra and will be taking Precalculus. A&P II, Microbio, Precalc and Electronic Health Records is now my class line up for the fall. Potentially a bit intense... But I am excited. Additionally I will be applying to a local hospital to work as a PCA in their L&D/postpartum ward. Getting my BLS this week as that's all many of these PCA positions require: High school diploma/GED and BLS. I am also having a slight crisis re:nursing. I have been thinking more and more about med school.......

Great job!!

I've considered med school, too. I worry that I'm too old (37). I've also considered get a degree in medical laboratory technology (because of micro and how awesome that class was). I think it's normal to have doubts, and it's good to have a back up plan. You can always change your mind :)

Found out today that I am pregnant! If it sticks (cross fingers), I am due late March/early April which is pretty good timing if I am accepted into the class that starts Fall 2018.
