Summer 2017 Chat

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi there! This thread is for anyone, anywhere that wants to chat about summer courses they are taking. This is our THIRD iteration of semester chat!

What's your schedule like this summer? Any TEAS or HESI preppers?

I'm taking three courses over 5 weeks. Texas Government (online), Chem II (lecture only, on campus) and Music Appreciation (online). School starts for me on June 6, ends July 7.

I'm also taking the TEAS on May 30th, so I'm prepping for that. And all my nursing school applications are due on August 1, so I'm working on that, too.

Hope everyone is well!

xo,

Jen

Sending positive vibes your way shycat! I'm sure everything will fall in place and you'll knock your classes out of the ballpark.

So somewhere on allnurses I ranted about this Microbio class. I took a more advanced class at the CC to transfer to a university. Well I'm back at the CC going for the LPN-RN program. Initially they wouldn't accept the class I took to replace the "less advanced" class. I spoke to my professor who taught the class, and she spoke to the chair of nursing. Both agreed that I can substitute my higher level class for the other because having my take the class would be redundant. So my professor also got the signature from the bio department chair.

Last week on Thursday I got a call from the Dean's secretary. Two problems: 1. Class can't be substituted because I'm not matriculated. 2. The "lower level" class HAS to be taken... no exceptions.

Also, please note that the whole day I was at the shop dealing with car problems, I got a call for a job offer I was waiting to accept, and I also had to let my other offer know that I have chosen a different job. So I was over everything, and accepted the fact I will have to take this class. Plus side, my new job will have tuition reimbursement, but if I do get in the program, I will have to fit it in on the same days as my nursing classes.

The next day I realize how wrong I was. I printed all of the emails I had with my professor, the chairs, etc. I go to the Dean's secretary. She pretty much repeats what she told me the day prior. She also said to ask the nursing chair. I need them to sign the approval to substitute my class. I call the chair's number, and the secretary says that the chair won't be in until Monday, and it would be up to the bio chair's discretion to approve the substitution. So pretty much I'm going around in circles.

I go back to the Dean's secretary and ask if I can have an appointment with her. So I wait about an hour and a half. The Dean sees me. I tell the Dean that I asked my professor who emailed the chair of the nursing department if substitution is ok. The Dean said her problem is that she didn't want to approve it if the chair isn't aware. I whip out the email and say that my professor spoke to the chair. If she wanted, I could bring a letter from the chair stating she was fine with the substitution. The Dean brings me to admissions. 10 minutes after waiting, she tells me that she will matriculate me. This should solve the problem. When I asked her if she still wanted a letter from the chair, she said it was alright.

Phew!! I mean, I'm still waiting to see if I was accepted or not, but I was told people will know by end of September. Soooo..fingers crossed! I also start this job September 11. Training is about 50 miles away :( but at least it's paid. Until then, waiting for the new chat :p

The application cycle for Spring 2018 officially closed yesterday, so now I'm in the really scary waiting phase.

Hey did you find out yet? We just completely finished the application process down here and won't get letters until Oct. 25th. SO nerve wrecking.
