Summer 2017 Chat

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi there! This thread is for anyone, anywhere that wants to chat about summer courses they are taking. This is our THIRD iteration of semester chat!

What's your schedule like this summer? Any TEAS or HESI preppers?

I'm taking three courses over 5 weeks. Texas Government (online), Chem II (lecture only, on campus) and Music Appreciation (online). School starts for me on June 6, ends July 7.

I'm also taking the TEAS on May 30th, so I'm prepping for that. And all my nursing school applications are due on August 1, so I'm working on that, too.

Hope everyone is well!

xo,

Jen

Congrats shycat! Definitely perfect timing! May you have a smooth pregnancy and have a healthy little one who let's you get plenty of sleep!

I also just wanted to say that I am sorry for your loss ItsThatJenGirl. Losing a family member is tough.

I appreciate all the kind words about my grandfather. xo

To give a quick update on my class (if I have not already shared this), but I took my final on the 29th. I went into the final only need to get 51% to still have a high A, but me being me, I still did my best. So, I am pleased to announce that I did in fact score high enough to keep my A. I have picked my classes for the Fall and am ready to take my last prerequisite course (A&P II) needed before I can apply to my school's program in the spring. I then only need to take stats during the winter for extra points on my application and study for the TEAS which I am hoping to take in May. There are so many words that could describe how I am feeling about being this close to nursing school (humbling, nerve-racking, exciting, rewarding, tough, fun). I can't wait to see how the Fall semester plays out.

The application cycle for Spring 2018 officially closed yesterday, so now I'm in the really scary waiting phase.

You've got this!!!

Congratulations on your pregnancy shycat! And congrats on your A, starry!!!

Good luck, Jen. Waiting sucks, so make sure you take care of yourself!

I just found out my clinical sites/schedule for next semester so I'm ecstatic! I'm so ready to be done with physiology and COMPLETELY done with general courses as a whole. I've been reading ahead for pharmacology so I'm somewhat prepared for what's next to come :)

Thank you and awesome job reading ahead mindofmidwifery! I am really looking forward to doing something hands on like clinicals! Must be so exciting. Which rotations will you be doing this upcoming semester?

I'll be doing med surg the majority of the semester then my last three weeks I have OB clinical. The hospitals I got assigned are some of the best in my area so I'm looking forward to it!

I am so glad you got great hospitals! I hope you get to put your knowledge to use :)

Now that the Fall semester has started, will there be a new thread? :D

Unfortunately, I had a chemical pregnancy. We tried again, but our timing wasn't good (will find out in a week or so if the egg was caught) and I am not sure my husband is ready. Might be for the best anyway since a classmate said that it sounds like I am actually able to apply for the accelerated track that starts in the Summer. I have an appointment with the academic advisor for the health professions tomorrow to go over my degree plan and if I can, in fact, apply for a summer start. Obviously if I were pregnant, I wouldn't pursue the summer start. I know plenty of people will give birth and go back to class 2 days later, but that's not for me.

I am taking College Algebra, Microbio, and A&P II and am definitely feeling the heat. The math in particular feels very fast paced and I am having a hard time figuring out my darn graphing calculator. It's online, but I am definitely thinking that I will need to take advantage of the tutors on campus. I love my microbio teacher. It's hybrid so it's just lab that's on campus, but she's very dynamic and helpful. She also did an excellent job with the online content - better than all my other online/hybrid classes. I have the same A&PII teacher as A&PI. Super boring and somehow there is a whole lot less content in my 3 hour A&P lab than in my 1h20min microbio lab!

I'm so sorry.

I'm not taking any classes this fall, but I'm happy to start a new thread and chat with you all!
