Summer 2017 Chat

Published

Hi there! This thread is for anyone, anywhere that wants to chat about summer courses they are taking. This is our THIRD iteration of semester chat!

What's your schedule like this summer? Any TEAS or HESI preppers?

I'm taking three courses over 5 weeks. Texas Government (online), Chem II (lecture only, on campus) and Music Appreciation (online). School starts for me on June 6, ends July 7.

I'm also taking the TEAS on May 30th, so I'm prepping for that. And all my nursing school applications are due on August 1, so I'm working on that, too.

Hope everyone is well!

xo,

Jen

Specializes in Oncology (Prior: Ortho-Neuro, Metabolic Surgery).

I just had to brag a bit. I got into the nursing program at Pike's Peak Community College! I start this fall 2017. I'm so excited!

That's great! Congratulations!

Ya'll I'm DONE with A&P II!!! I'm so happy I could cry. haha Next up is the TEAS on August 25 and getting my application together for ABSN programs (getting titers done, sending transcripts, uploading documents into castlebranch, etc). Application is due September 1! And I also start Human Patho on August 14, which is my LAST prereq. :) It's getting so real!

I felt the same when I finished Chem II!

I bet! Kudos to you again for how well you did during your summer session because it was definitely A LOT. You're more than ready for nursing school. haha :) But yeah, I wish I could've taken A&P II during the fall because I know I would've enjoyed it more, both due to being able to spread out the information over 16 weeks instead of 8 and giving myself a break after the spring semester. But it is what it is. I still learned a ton and am pleased with how I did. I'm extremely nervous for the TEAS though because I've never been a good standardized test taker and I have to score in the 90s. :(

In the 90's? Wow. My score was 83 and that's in the 92nd percentile nationally.

I usually freeze up with Big Tests, but I didn't feel like that with the TEAS. The only reason my score was low was because I took the test before I took any OChem or BioChem. On the life and physical sciences part, my score was a 50 (!). If you've done that, you should be just fine. I wouldn't consider it difficult at all, if you've excelled in the necessary classes.

Fingers crossed for you over here!

Finally finished my Biomedical Ethics class. Now I'm on to study and CLEP US History.

Hey Everyone!

I'm a week a way from finishing my second session of summer classes. I'm finishing Stats and I must say I'm feeling a bit more comfortable with it except my final is in a week. So glad that it will be over soon. For anyone who is interested Stats online and taking it in the summer or accelerated I will say it is completely do-able with a struggle lol it can be done.

Agreed. I took it in a 4 week intercession. It's totally doable, especially if you're mathematically inclined.

I didnt take stats online, but I did take it during the summer in a 6 week course and I thought it was a breeze. Finished with a 98. So i agree with you!

Today is the "official" last day for finals at my school, but my online class allows us through Saturday just before midnight to take the final. I am finishing up the last discussion board posting today before doing a major review on the chapters I'll be tested on. I picked out my classes for the Fall and got the A&P II professor that I wanted. I just need that class and stats during the winter for some extra points on my application which I will submit in the Spring.

Congrats to everyone for making it into nursing programs, finishing up their prerequisites and are getting ready to apply, or getting ready to take the TEAS. Best of luck. Your hard work will pay off. For those of us in various stages of having classes done, let's finish strong!

That's great!!!!

I had a really hard time with stats - I did it online and MyMathLab taught the excel formulas, but the tests were all with calculators and there was no calculator instruction given, so I really struggled. It was my first and only C. I wish I had done better.

Things have been rough over here. My grandfather passed away. He had idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, so he's been sick for a while, but it still felt like a huge blow. We were pretty close. Just trying to hold it together.

My last application is officially submitted, transcripts received (they are being verified now). The deadline is next Tuesday, so I should hear something in 4-6 weeks. I joined a gym to help get some of this weight off, and to establish a fitness routine before I start school. And to distract myself from the anxiety of the waiting.

I hope everyone is well! It's nearly time for a Fall thread.
