Hi there! This thread is for anyone, anywhere that wants to chat about summer courses they are taking. This is our THIRD iteration of semester chat!
What's your schedule like this summer? Any TEAS or HESI preppers?
I'm taking three courses over 5 weeks. Texas Government (online), Chem II (lecture only, on campus) and Music Appreciation (online). School starts for me on June 6, ends July 7.
I'm also taking the TEAS on May 30th, so I'm prepping for that. And all my nursing school applications are due on August 1, so I'm working on that, too.
Hope everyone is well!
xo,
Jen
I just added Microbiology to my summer schedule; it's basically the second half of General Bio which I just finished, so it's not adding to my schedule so much as extending the class. Still, that comes to 17 credits this summer which feels nuts to me, though I'm still getting the work done...
Anyone taking the GRE? I took it this morning for two reasons, 1. The last time I took it, I bombed it, and 2. The fantasy schools that I probably won't get into, and wouldn't be able to afford even if I did, require it. The math section was soooooo much harder than the practice tests! >
Did you talk to Jason at SDSU Nursing? I plan to finish in 2 years. I'm already knocking out BSN courses this year, before admission, which you can do via open university and transferring courses in. The clinical courses are the only ones I can't do ahead of time, and those will take 4 semesters to complete. It's definitely possible to do it in less than 3 years. They just don't make any promises about it. Jason can give you more details, but they will accommodate you if they can.
Ya'll. My chem professor let us out early today - which never happens. Not 5 minutes after we were released, the campus called my phone and left this message:An ARMED and DANGEROUS individual at large on or near the campus. If you are on campus and you can leave safely, do so immediately. If you cannot leave safely, go into the nearest available room, lock and barricade the door, turn off the lights, be very quiet. Call Dispatch 485-0099 if you know the shooter's location and it is safe for you to call. Be prepared to fight for your life if you are found by the shooter. Use anything you can as a weapon to defend yourself. If you are not on campus, stay away. This threat is real and imminent! Follow instructions from college officials or local authorities.
The campus is locked down. I'm totally safe and home, but I'm a little shook. The suspect was shot, as were two cops.
How terrifying!! Is your community college in a shady part of town? Mine is unfortunately and reading this makes me want to go to the one 15 mins away because it's in a much better part of town. Glad to hear you're safe!!

Yeah, it's not the best part of town. It's not my usual campus, but it was the only one that offered the Chem class I needed. The cops got a call for suspicious people, they pulled up next to them and the guy opened fire, killed one of the cops, then shot himself. Really sad.
On a happier note, I have TWO more days of school left. I've almost made it!
Hello my friends ^_^ I have a week and a half left and I can't wait! My mind is in six different places and none of them are summer school.
I got the call yesterday that I got the position I went to an interview for last week!! (Different position than I had talked about in the spring thread if you were in there.) sooooo excited for this to start!!

That's awesome, congratulations!!
Today is my last day. I can't wait to be rid of this hectic and difficult semester.
I'M DOOONNNEEEEEEE. I couldn't be happier right now. Two A's for sure and probably a B for Chem, but I'm at peace with that - it was a LOT of info in a very short period and I did the best I could.
Ya'll. I have no school for about 6 months. Now all I have to do is wait to see which school I get accepted to!

Hi Jen, how many programs did you apply to? Also congratulations on finishing a hectic semester!

Thanks!
I just applied to two. One's a BSN, the other is my back up school - an ADN. There aren't many options in my area unfortunately (only two BSN programs, and the other is a private school that's insanely expensive). I'll find out mid-September/October.

YAY congrats Jen!!! What an amazing accomplishment. You should be very proud of yourself. :)
I have 2 weeks left of A&P II and am low-key wanting to shoot myself in the face. lol Not becasue I hate the content but because it's just being taught very fast (and not exactly to the depth that I'd like) and also because I'm very, very tired. I have my 3rd lecture exam AND lab practical on Monday over respiratory, urinary/renal, and water/electrolytes/pH and I work every day this weekend. So this should be fun. I'm very stressed because if I don't make an A in the class, I don't have a shot of getting into my program. It's that competitive.
We start male/female repro and digestive on Tuesday next week and then have our lecture exam/practical for our 4th unit the following Thursday, the 20th. And 2 more quizzes squeezed in between these 4 exams. Breathe, just breathe... lol
I guess I should make an update about myself. Yesterday afternoon at 4:15 I found out I passed the NCLEX-PN. So right now I'm just treading through the swamp that is Biomedical Ethics. It's interesting, but I don't want to think like a philosopher right now. I also plan to just CLEP US History 1 by the end of this summer so I can get that class out of the way. Hope I can get into the LPN-RN program. And somewhere in between I'll be applying for work.

Does the three year length of the SDSU bachelors program not deter you? I considered it initially but they said you can't finish it in less time and take coursework alongside current SDSU students. Already having a bachelors that would only put me at taking a few nursing courses per semester. And literally every other program I've looked at is 2 years max.
