Spring 2017 Chat

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Now that January is here, I thought I'd start a thread where we can support and encourage each other through our Spring semester, similar to our Fall thread, but with a bit more chit chat. What's your schedule look like? Any other goals you're working on?

I go back on the 17th, though I have a Phi Theta Kappa meeting on the 13th.

My schedule is:

A&P II

Microbio

Federal Government

World Religions

The last two are online.

Right now I'm trying to lose this holiday weight, so I've started running again (it burns). I graduate at the end of this year! In December I'll have my EMT-B certification and my Associates of Science in Biology. I'll also be applying to nursing school (application deadline is August 1), so it's going to be a really exciting (busy) year for me! I'm hoping to use my EMT-B cert to become an ED tech during the summers.

I look forward to chatting with you guys this semester!

Are you in Arizona? I only ask because I live in Phoenix and those are the exact course numbers for my Chem and Micro courses as well! haha I'm taking CHM130/CHM130LL, BIO205, and BIO201 this semester. :)

Yes M'am! I've taken all my pre-reqs and co-reqs through Rio Salado so that I can continue to work. I'm hoping to turn in my application this May for the CEP with Estrella Mountain CC or Glendale CC. Did you decide between NAU and ASU yet?

Specializes in Mother/Baby.

Hey I hope I'm not to late to join in. I'm taking AP I and intro to nursing, and then micro and lifespan development in spring. Cool to see so many in the same boat with me!

Specializes in Critical Care Nurse.

Hi everyone!

I'm taking A&P2, Eng Comp2, & Speech. I am a nervous wreck as this is my last semester before nursing school. The nursing school of my choice reviewed my application and transcript and said I would be a good candidate. However I must keep my GPA up in my last semester of prerequisites. I'm overly excited. I am even more determined than before. Best of luck to you all!

Specializes in Cardiac ICU.

I'm taking this semester to relax and prepare for the Nursing Program this Fall.

I've already taken all of the co-requisites for my program that I'm most interested in. However, for one of the programs that I applied for I still would need to take Chemistry. I've applied to two programs with high hopes for both of them.

Found out recently too that I will be able to get my BSN shortly after getting my ADN by taking my general education courses through the community college and taking the Nursing courses through the University online after I obtain an RN licensure. Save money in the long run because the Nursing Program credits at my community college wouldn't transfer to the University to count against my 64 total credits transferring if that makes sense. That allows me to take my foreign languages and such at the community college instead of at the university.

I'm assuming there are several others here who have already applied for their perspective Nursing Programs?

A&P 2 was way more fun that A&P 1 in my opinion. You should do just fine this semester! It doesn't appear to be that difficult of a course load.

I'm only taking one class this semester, Micro. I only have 2 more pre recs after this and then i take that TEAS and apply! However I will be taking some stuff that will help me, that's not "necessary" - like pharmacology and a 1cr "success in nursing" course (i will probably do those 2 over the summer)

Yay a fellow Arizonian! haha I wish I could take my prereqs through Rio Salado. It's SO hard to fit in all of this class time with work. Plus I'm also an athlete so there's that. lol But the accelerated programs I'm applying to won't accept online labs unfortunately. On that note, I would much rather go to NAU because Flagstaff is beautiful but I can live at home while attending ASU so I'd save money in terms of living expenses. I won't be working during the actual program because I want to eventually go for my DNP in pediatric oncology so I want to be able to completely focus on school and my grades. Thus, I'll be living off of loans and not having to pay rent will definitely help.

My plan is to apply to ASU for the January 2018 cohort and if I don't get in I'll be applying for the June 2018 cohort at NAU. Tbh though if money wasn't an object my top 3 choices would UNC Chapel Hill, UC Denver, and UW Seattle. I plan to relocate after graduating with my BSN though and *hope* to attend one of those schools for my DNP!

Hi! I'm Nathan, and I'm taking Microbiology and Lifespan Development Psychology.

I'll be applying to 4 nursing programs so I have a good chance to get into at least 1.

HI! Yeah, I recall now from a previous post that you already have a bachelors degree, so you're study pathway will be different, obviously. Shame they don't take the online labs tho. I do know that you can take your nursing classes with your local community college (which one is closest to you? GWCC??) and then the GCU online for the masters degree, but from what you were saying (and others), I'm not sure that GCU is a good choice, and plus I seem to recall you weren't interested in the Masters anyway - is that right?

However, you could always take the community college CEP route, even with your previous bachelors degree...financially it would be cheaper and you could study from home to save $$

The application cycle for me opens up next month! It's going to be one hell of a year.

I just had my first Micro lab - it was so fun! I can't wait to see what microbes I scraped off the bottom of my shoe (someone swabbed their orifice - interesting choice). We've already jumped right in in A&P II, too - cardiovascular system for the next few weeks!

Haha, I was not expecting to read that! When I swabbed something I just swabbed my cell phone and it came out with some interesting results. I highly enjoyed A&P2 and that's right where we started. It's a lot of information but it is very interesting and establishes a bit of a foundation for the entire semester.

Yeah several people have mentioned the CEP route but tbh I'm so anxious to get going and have a decent income/career that I'd rather do an accelerated program since I already have a bachelors. Kinda like ripping off a bandaid. haha I'm actually going to CGCC but I'm not pursuing an AA or doing any sort of nursing track. Just taking my prereqs for accelerated programs! If I did the CEP route there's no telling how long it would take to actually get in once I finished my associates ya know? Some people say it took them a semester but I know others who have been on the waiting list for 2-3 years. But if I get into ASU I'll be all graduated with my BSN by December 2018! I actually do want to continue my education- I'm hoping to go for my DNP in pediatrics after 2ish years of working as a nurse! But I want to relocate after graduating from ASU because the desert is just not my thing even though I was born and raised here. haha I'm looking into somewhere along the west coast, like Northern Cali or Washington State or possibly even Colorado. :)
