Spring 2017 Chat

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Now that January is here, I thought I'd start a thread where we can support and encourage each other through our Spring semester, similar to our Fall thread, but with a bit more chit chat. What's your schedule look like? Any other goals you're working on?

I go back on the 17th, though I have a Phi Theta Kappa meeting on the 13th.

My schedule is:

A&P II

Microbio

Federal Government

World Religions

The last two are online.

Right now I'm trying to lose this holiday weight, so I've started running again (it burns). I graduate at the end of this year! In December I'll have my EMT-B certification and my Associates of Science in Biology. I'll also be applying to nursing school (application deadline is August 1), so it's going to be a really exciting (busy) year for me! I'm hoping to use my EMT-B cert to become an ED tech during the summers.

I look forward to chatting with you guys this semester!

HEY HAS ANYONE TAKEN MICROBIOLOGY ONLINE WITH LAB THAT DIDNT NEED A LAB KIT??!

SO fustrating I toke it at York COllege and it was 3 credits I am currently in a AAS RN program that says I need to take it somewhere that has it for 4 credits and i can transfer it in but this cluster is my second semester with clinical I want free time to take it online. All the recommendations i see is from 2007-2012 nothing recent

HESI done!!!!! 96.83 overall... I took

Math, bio, chem, a&p, reading comprehension, Grammer, vocab.

I posted about it in another thread, if anyone is curious about more details, I'll copy it over here. Pretty much used the Eselvier 4th edition book and the pocket prep ap. Answered as many questions as I could find online. Reviewed all my a&p 1 material, and since I haven't taken a&p2 yet, studied my body systems using my medical terminology stuff.

Reading comprehension was hardest for me, there were some really random questions I thought, but, I still Scored 90 on that one.

I'm just so glad it's over! Now onto my last semester before applying!

Specializes in Elderly Care, Medical Office.

This will be my third semester in college. Taking:

Communications

Psychology

Intermediate Algebra

Nutrition

So happy to get this math class over with so i can start on my sciences. I like treating each class like it is course in nursing school. One more year and I can apply to the program!

Awesome, this thread is helping plan my semesters for the rest of my pre-reqs. Some of you stack up your science classes pretty high!

This semester I'm just taking A&P 2

I have to keep working full time right now for financial preparation for nursing school so the amount pre-reqs I can handle right now is limited. Plus maintaining GPA is important to me since I may want to apply to masters/doctorate program one day..

I'm hoping to leave work for the fall semester to do school full time and hit my pre-reqs HARD!

This is my fourth semester, applying for the nursing program in April. I'm taking A&P II + lab, and Microbiology + lab this semester. Last two co-reqs for the program. I'm extremely sick and nervous over applying and being rejected.

Applied for the Fall. Application is pending have to resend transcripts and send in my immunization records. Have to check how the selection process goes; They say can take AP2 while waiting to see if you are accepted into the program.

I am wondering how AP will be doing lecture and lab all I one day.

My Micro class has short lecture on Tuesday, then lecture and lab alllll day Thursday. I'll let you know how it goes.

So I wanted a specific teacher for World Religions and he only offered a flex course (8 weeks vs 16 weeks). My first paper is due Sunday. Yikes.

Good luck to those starting this week! My first Micro class is tomorrow. :)

Where I live the CC offer a CEP (concurrent education program) that runs the ADN and BSN concurrently with a University of your choice (from a selection of 6). To apply, one needs to have taken all the pre-reqs for the CC, all the co-reqs for CC, and all the pre-reqs for the University.

Hence, when you start the CC provides the in-person nursing classes/clinicals/labs etc., and the University provides all the "soft-classes" such as ethics in nursing, the history of nursing, health teaching across the life-cycle, and so forth. The University classes are primarily taken online. This is why they want a student to have all the co-reqs done before applying, because trying to take the University classes, plus CC co-reqs, plus in-person nursing classes would be all but impossible.

Anyway - I am 3 classes away from having all the pre and co reqs done, and hope to submit my application by the end of May. At my local CC's the ADN/BSN program is competitive entry whereas the ADN program (without the BSN) has a waitlist. I am hoping, therefore, (if I get accepted of course) that I will be starting the University online classes this fall, which is really exciting. The nursing classes would hopefully start next spring (2018).

It's great to finally be at this stage. It has taken a long time to get all the classes, especially working and raising a family etc. I'm planning to get some 1-on-1 advisement this week to try and ascertain exactly when I could expect to start assuming my grades and HESI scores are good enough...like I said, it's competitive entry and they suggest a very high GPA and well into the 90% on HESI to even stand a chance of getting a place!

My 8 week A&P class started last Tuesday and it's already getting intense. Our first test is this Thursday, hopefully it won't be too hard! I'm doing fine with the content, I just don't know how the professor does her tests yet.

I finished all my prereqs last semester. I applied for fall at Roane State. I'm doing classes towards my eventual BSN this semester. I'm taking U.S. History, Nutrition, Philosophy and Comp II.

Specializes in ICU Stepdown.
