Spring 2017 Chat

Published

Now that January is here, I thought I'd start a thread where we can support and encourage each other through our Spring semester, similar to our Fall thread, but with a bit more chit chat. What's your schedule look like? Any other goals you're working on?

I go back on the 17th, though I have a Phi Theta Kappa meeting on the 13th.

My schedule is:

A&P II

Microbio

Federal Government

World Religions

The last two are online.

Right now I'm trying to lose this holiday weight, so I've started running again (it burns). I graduate at the end of this year! In December I'll have my EMT-B certification and my Associates of Science in Biology. I'll also be applying to nursing school (application deadline is August 1), so it's going to be a really exciting (busy) year for me! I'm hoping to use my EMT-B cert to become an ED tech during the summers.

I look forward to chatting with you guys this semester!

My 8 week A&P class started last Tuesday and it's already getting intense. Our first test is this Thursday, hopefully it won't be too hard! I'm doing fine with the content, I just don't know how the professor does her tests yet.

8 week A&P course?? That sounds super intense. Good luck!

Thank you!! It's already intense but it's interesting stuff so hopefully it goes well!

I really like my Micro teacher - I feel like this is going to be a great semester!

I'm in for a rough March/April: I'm taking CHM130 & CHM130LL, BIO205, and another class (can't remember which one now!) all on the 8 week accelerated.....AGH! I just want to get them done in time to submit my application for the May 31st deadline!

Are you in Arizona? I only ask because I live in Phoenix and those are the exact course numbers for my Chem and Micro courses as well! haha I'm taking CHM130/CHM130LL, BIO205, and BIO201 this semester. :)

I am ready but kind of scared going back to school this semester. It seems like every time I bring up that I am taking general Chemistry this semester all my co worker and friends act like its going to be the end of the world. Has anybody out there had good experiences with chemistry or is it an all out snooze fest?

Chemistry wasn't THAT bad. It was a lot of content but my teacher was amazing. It did require a lot of studying outside of school. I made sure to do practice problems out of the textbook so that I could retain what I learned in class. The only thing that made it so hard for me is that I missed days so had to learn things on my own for exams.

That is good advice. Thank you! It is the only class I am taking this semester so I should have plenty of time to study. I have my first lecture and lab tonight so we will see how my teacher is.

I had the same exact issue - I really freaked myself out. Chemistry isn't hard, IMO. My experience wasn't great, because my teacher was TERRIBLE (so terrible that he got fired after the semester - and we were his first and only class). It's not necessarily an *easy* class, but it's not going to end the world, I promise. Just study, ask questions and take good notes. If you get confused and need help, use Khan Academy! You'll be okay.

So far, I really like my anatomy teacher, but like you I'm scared those words will come back to haunt me. I can't completely decide how much I like her until I see how her tests are!

Everyone is of course different, but for me chemistry wasn't bad at all. The worst part was that I wasn't interested in it at all. There's some math, but it's too hard. You'll of course have to study, but for me it wasn't any more studying than for other classes.

I am taking this semester easy and only doing Chem 1, Pre-calc and Comm 1101. I'll have to pay for it this summer when I have to take several classes to make up for it. My counselor wanted to make sure I'd be okay in Chemistry though. So far it's all been fairly easy and my professors are great!
