nurse told me prereqs are the hardest part

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I was talking to a nurse yesterday about how I was worried about the intensity of a 1 year ABSN program. She has been working as a nurse for a few years and she told me that the prereqs were the most difficult part for her. Nurses, do you agree?

I felt like nursing school was a joke compared to the pre reqs. I hated the pre reqs with a passion.

IMHO, hayullllllll to the no. Nursing school is hard. What was a B in pre reqs (80%) is one point from failing in my program. It's not the material that is so difficult, it's the intensity. :banghead:

Octobersong I wonder the same thing. I was just accepted into an absn program too and I'm soooo scared! I keep trying to tell myself yes, it's going to be hard as hell but lots of ppl do this, so I can do it too.

Lol she lied. Pre reqs were the easiest part

Hahahaha. No. No way.

Um, no. Just no. I don't think nursing school is harder, but I do think it is a lot more time consuming and I am putting way more brain power into it than I ever did prereqs. Give me A&P any day!

Nursing school has so far been harder.

It's hard to compare them. They both have their difficulties, just in different ways. I find nursing school to be much more stressful than pre-reqs. But they are both challenging.

I'm going to be clear...it is up to the person in the program.

Nursing school; is INTENSE. PERIOD.

New way of thinking...the formatting of the questions, learning to build on nursing model and put it all together...and the increase in "minimum" grade averages can be daunting to the individual.

Any program that is accelerated can be daunting, but can be done as others stated.

no, I sailed through my prereqs with little difficulty and felt like I got thrown against a wall in nursing school... however, school always came easy to me and I finally had to apply myself in nursing school so it was a whole new ball game

I would say they were more difficult than A&P, but I also enjoyed A&P. I think what made nursing school so difficult was that it just felt like we had to cover way more material in a shorter amount of time. Especially classes like Pharmacology! Also the format of the exams are different. It's not just straight recalling information like A&P was. They do it NCLEX style so it's not as straight forward and hence more difficult. So while pulling As in my prereqs were pretty manageable for me, I found it more difficult to do so in nursing school and ended up more with a B/B+ average except for the easy electives. I can't say how much more difficult it will be in an accelerated program, but all I can say is time management and prioritize!! I found it impossible to actually read everything they assigned, but definitely do your best to stay on top of your game. Also that's why the lectures are helpful to zone in on the most essential points (unless you have a bad professor....). Also because the exams are NCLEX style, it helps to practice NCLEX questions throughout to help practice thinking through the questions.

I noticed some in my class had study groups...I personally did not, but I could see how it could be helpful. Split up the readings and note taking, discussing the information...depends on the person but you may want to consider that too.

Good luck!! You can do it! :)
