Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

well, it's about time to start this thread, i think!! let's get our bearings and see who all is in the same boat in january!

i finish up the first half of a&p with a comprehensive exam on december 13th and then it's right into the physiology portion of the course. we actually are starting special senses this week and next but will only get the first chapter done.

so .... who else is in? when did you take a&p i and how is your course set up? do you have the prof you want and are you looking forward to it?

i will include the sites from the a&p i thread that might be helpful! i will add/subtract as i get a chance to look through them a bit more or if anyone else suggests some good sites.

~ karen ;-)

here's a new site i ran across this morning while surfing the web. i think it's a great find.

http://www.sirinet.net/~jgjohnso/index.html it is the home page of the biology teacher at frederick high school in frederick, oklahoma. this instructor teaches a high school class of a&p. although you want to link into the biology ii homepage, i notice that there is information in the biology i homepage that also pertains to some a&p subject areas. there are plenty of notes, quizzes and practice exercises scattered throughout this extensive site, but i could not find any answers. presented in a little easier than college level, i thought this was an awesome introduction to a&p!

HI!!! This is my 1st post although I have been a lurker for a couple of months. But I wanted to add my name to the A&P 2 roll call in Jan. I think I have an A in A&P 1 (I wont know until tomorrow when grades are released). I'm also takin Chem, Dev. Pyschology, and Soc. So I'm be studying my BE-hind off thats if I have any left from A&P 1
Great to have you!!! Everyone is very helpful here I have found!! Did you get your A? I hope so!!!

Welcome!

well, lol, time on my hands this morning and just read through this whole thread. 34 people [updated jan 7] have posted to say they are taking this so far! i know, inquiring minds really wanted to know that. looks like many people are starting back on january 9th! we start on the 4th but i will be happy to be back.

my course is a two semester deal so i don't have a mark for a&p i but that section of the course is behind me now and, in the end, my final grade will be two whatever-my-mark-is. anyone else here taking it like this? i did enjoy last semester but have heard conflicting reports as to what this next part will be like. some people say it is easier because after having learned all the parts, we now start to figure out more what they do, etc. then some say it's more difficult because you have to understand the functioning, etc. what have you heard about it?

anyway, just hanging out here today! we've finally finished christmas with both sides of the family and today i will do some reading for my nutrition course. dh's birthday is tomorrow but that is usually a more relaxed affair, even though we will be having ten people over for supper (all family plus my dd's boyfriend).

how is everyone doing? here is my list from this a.m. (my apologies if i accidentally missed anyone!) come join us if you haven't already and/or feel free to jump in at anytime. so far i have found everyone in this forum to be very kind, helpful and understanding!!

36_17_3.gif I was trying to clean up the first post of this thread re links. If anyone has any comments on which sites were the most helpful to them or additional ones, please post and let us know! (or if any don't work or are not good, etc.)

There sure are a lot of sites out there .. I didn't get a chance to explore them very much. I basically tried to categorize them a little more and get rid of ones that seemed to be more pertaining to A&P I or that didn't work.

During the school year, I tend to use these sites only when I'm working on a specific topic or else I get bogged down. What about you guys?

What text are you using? We are continuing with "Principles of Anatomy and Physiology" by Tortora and Derrickson.

Specializes in Pediatric/Adolescent, Med-Surg.

I'll be going back Jan 3rd. My school uses Elaine Marieb's "Anatomy and Physiology" text and her "Human Anatomy and Physiology Lab Manual: Cat Version." I use the lab manual more than the text.

Specializes in OR Peri Operative.

kayel- good luck when school starts. That is really wierd they don't give you a grade for A&P 1 and combine it with 2. Neer heard of it. For my A&P2 we will be using the same book nad lab manual however. So that will be nice not having to buy more books for that. (unless they decided to go to a different version of the same book...that always seems to happen to me :icon_roll: )

I'm really enjoying this time off though. Needed a re-charge. I have heard A&P 2 is easier. I hope so :)

I did very good last semester. my GPA was 3.95 not bad...would hae loved a 4.0 again ,but I got a A- in my doses class. Ohwell.

Hopefully this semester will e a 4.0

TTYL

Specializes in L/D.

Hi, count me in. My school does things a little different though. I dont take A&P I and II, we have a semester of Anatomy and then a semester of Physiology...different classes, different teachers. I took Anatomy last semester(got an A), and I am taking Physio this semester along with Micro:eek: . This is my last semester before applying to the nursing program.

Amber

p.s. My classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I start Jan. 17

Specializes in Labor and Delivery.

I start on the 9th as well. Like Carebear77 we'll be using the same textbook and Lab manual. Thank goodness for that, books are expensive. My hubby left on December 20th to go to Bahrain (middle east) for one year so all I'll be doing is studying next semester. I'm spending the holidays with my family and just trying to let my brain relax!

Using the Tortora one too, but it's the 11th edition. For A&P1, we used the 10th, so I had to buy the new book. Found it on eBay for about $30 less than at the school bookstore though, which was good!

Terre

We are using the Hole's Human Anatomy and Physiology 10th ed.

Too bad they are making you get the next edition! That sucks!! We are using the 11th .. from the looks of things, the last book they used wasn't very different (not sure if it was the 10th but it looked quite a bit the same). WTG on your eBay purchase!!!

We are using Tortora 11th edition too. We also used for API last qrt, but several of the students who were repeating the class just kept their 10th edition from last time. I found mine online for $100 new and was totally stoked . We start classes on Tuesday. I have REALLY enjoyed this break!
