Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

Thanks for the answers guys. It would have been nice to attempt to get out of taking a class :) Oh well.

Glad to have two OU nursing classes done and under the belt. Wasn't so bad. Put more time in than I expected. But, now that I am in the swing of things...hopefully I can do it in a more timely fashion. Not a fan of "scholarly posts"

Better Become a fan!!! They are in just about every class!! :(

Yes..that is what I understand. It wasn't so bad...as much as a nuisance to me.

But...a good way to keep grades up after crazy tests!

I'd take a discussion board ANY day over a quiz or exam....they are the death of me. I stress out so much before I hit the start button....then the mind goes BLANK!

I'm glad I was in no rush to start classes! I applied on June 13th. My transcripts were received by OU within the next few weeks. I finally received the official email verifying my enrollment into the nursing program on December 22. That email said an academic advisor would contact me on how to proceed. No one ever did. I finally emailed the nursing department who sent the welcome packet 'again' (they claimed it was sent). In the midst of this time period, I was required to submit a Change of Session form, as my original intent was to start in the fall. I will now start in winter II.

It's been an extremely long process; however I am thankful to have been accepted! The convenience and price certainly cannot be beat.

The best to you all,

Kellie

So how is everyone coming along now that the first 1/2 of winter is over? I have done pretty well. I have taken 5 nursing classes so far. with all of the changes the school is making I am a bit nervous but I am taking it in stride. Good luck to everyone this last 1/2 of the Quarter

Surviving. Start gerontology next 5 weeks. Just registered for spring - community and diversity. Will have family, health interventions, Research and Excellence left. Almost there!!!

I thought I had posted a 2 paragraph post about the fact that they are offering Health Appraisal this Spring but it got erased!!

IN SHORT- Im ticked that priority registration started the 7th and It says I am unable to register until the 13th! WHY?? What if the classes I want to take are full?!I missed the JUnior Comp the last time due to this. What are supposed to do.....wait? We pay our tuition like everyone else and last time I checked iy was 1st come 1st served

I would contact the SON directly about this issue. Do you have an advisor? Call them and tell them YOU HAVE TO GET THESE CLASSES IN. What a stressor. I logged in to register and it said basically no you can't. I waited a few hours and tried again...registered with no problem. Weird system they have. Good luck and I hope you get the classes you need.

It's based on which program you are in, Outreach vs Online RN to BSN, and the amount of credits you have there. It's just like any other school I have been to, there are priority registration dates.
