I'm glad I was in no rush to start classes! I applied on June 13th. My transcripts were received by OU within the next few weeks. I finally received the official email verifying my enrollment into the nursing program on December 22. That email said an academic advisor would contact me on how to proceed. No one ever did. I finally emailed the nursing department who sent the welcome packet 'again' (they claimed it was sent). In the midst of this time period, I was required to submit a Change of Session form, as my original intent was to start in the fall. I will now start in winter II. It's been an extremely long process; however I am thankful to have been accepted! The convenience and price certainly cannot be beat. The best to you all, Kellie

Our medical director was just telling us last week that new research is showing (proving?) Ativan/benzo's are either not effective or actually increasing the anxiety. I haven't seen this research yet, but the alternative we were told would be risperdal or seroquel.

I must have been lucky enough to get into the new registration system. I sent my application in on June 13th and received an email notice that it was received, along with one of my two transcripts, on June 21st. I know there's been several requests for books. I checked bne.com and I'm not sure what that site is. Google your state board of nursing and check there. In Ohio we show up as pending once our paperwork is in, then our license shows up the day after we pass. Good luck!

I think this would be very hard to appeal since (at least at my test center) you had to read and agree to the rules, which clearly stated no phone use at any time - including rest room breaks. Good luck.

In Ohio we can look up our license online. It shows up the next business day after passing. We no longer receive a paper license, employers view/print them online.

Yes, check your state site. Here in Ohio we can view our license online and they were posted the day after we took the NCLEX.

Congrats malapata! I tracked my progress as a studied, as I did it on my own since I could not afford $350+ for a review class. I did 1,500 practice questions, most from Kaplan strategy book and Saunders Comprehensive. My average score on the 1,500 questions was 72%. When I first started studying, I was scoring in the high 60% range. The night before the NCLEX, I took the comprehensive practice test on the Kapln CD and scored 66%. I was freaking, but so tired of studying....nothing to do but go for it. Not like I could reschedule at that point! I passed with 75 questions. I think Kaplan came closest in format, Saunders was better at review. I've been an LPN for 6 years and it took a lot of "un-learning" how I've done things! As Kaplan says, when you take the NCLEX its not the real world - you have all the time, staff, supplies, etc that you need for the task at hand. Good luck to all!

Took the test Thursday, got the 'good' pop up about an hour later, which cut off at 75 questions. Found out on the Ohio Board of Nursing site Friday I passed! Thank God it's over! On to my BSN :) Good luck to all!

I've found this thread very interesting! I just passed the state test for my RN and applied to OU. Unfortunately, my "enrollment specialist" failed to tell me about the deadlines. I am doubtful one of my two transcripts will be post marked by June 24 for Fall I enrollment. I was too overwhelmed studying for the NCLEX to delve into their website too much so I didn't catch the date myself. However, if I don't start until October that will be fine with me as I need a mental break! Re Excelsior/Rue - I was under the impression that these credits are non-transferrable as you are testing out of the classes rather than earning the credit in class. I ran into this problem after taking classes at Bryant & Stratton (for IT) for a year back in my younger days. Four quarters worth of classes, none of them transfer any where. Good luck to all!

I agree with you all - it's rewarding! I explain to them how rewarding it is to help someone get comfortable and stay comfortable. I also love that I can focus on one patient at a time and give them quality of life, not necessarily quantity. I also give huge praise back to families that have kept their loved one at home or supported them in a LTC every day, sometimes for years. I guess that's refreshing to see after working LTC where some people had no visitors ever.

I think you are rightfully concerned. Our medical director is wonderful - available 24/7 and approachable. Your DON and the aide are both doing things outside their scope. Why is the aide measuring anyways? What is she doing with the measurements?

We had a patient in a "rough" neighborhood, in a duplex with very "interesting characters" to put it mildly. It was agreed upon by all staff that none of us would visit there alone. It was also agreed that if we got called out in the middle of the night, police would escort us. We spoke to the poilce before hand about the situation. We recently had an unstable family member, not sure what his pysch issue were, but staff felt threatened. Our concern was that when the patient passed (his grandmother) he'd go ballistic. It was agreed upon by the family and staff that the police would be called to control him if it came to that. Luckily, it ended peacefully. I believe prevention is key, it's just difficult when every patient/family has unique situation!
