The "Q" Word and Other Mysteries

Nurses Humor

Published

Found this on Facebook and it made me laugh, I am always shushing people who start to stay the "Q" word (quiet), because usually when someone remarks on how quiet it is, suddenly, it's not.

What are some other things that you say/think? Myths, superstitions, "sure signs" that you know of as a nurse?

And yes, this is what is called a "fun thread" so let's not make it all serious and junk lol. (Except: The Q word one is DEAD serious!)

last summer there was a song out "Tonight's gonna be a good night" - we used to shut that off when it came on the radio!

If you tempt the hospital gods by bringing in a book or your homework, you're gonna be screwed. Tonight I tempted the gods and OPENED my textbook. I was playing with fire!

Once I was in home depot with my hubby and he said "it sure is quiet in here"... and I chastized him for it. "Shh! don't SAY that! I like it this way and now it won't be!!" He looked at me really funny and said, ok honey but we're in a STORE. I said, yes but now some old dude will wander in with an oxygen tank and fall out right in front of me and I'll be at work again! The word knows I'm trying to enjoy my day off!

Nope. Learned it yesterday, first day on the job, and everyone gasped...

just one way the "young" can ensure they will be "eaten"...

Hopefully they were joking!

This thread is cracking me up. Seriously. Lmbo! Rotfl!!!

I remember when I first got hired at the hospital. I was 18 and blissfully ignorant, and says one day, in the ED at that, today sure was [You know what] and I felt the heavy hand of one of my motherly figures in the ED come down on my back. She kept saying "Go sit down somewhere". Lol.

we use copacetic where I work.

I'm not superstitious. On the very rare occasions when it's appropriate, I happily bust out with QUIET. I also name names. Drives some of my colleagues batty but I refuse to play these silly games.

when I worked in the hospital, I would make up an admit packect and leave it at the nurses station. If I didn't make one up, then we would get an admission. Also, I had to quit wearing a certain lab coat to work. Whenever I wore it, we would get 2-3 pediatric admits!!!!!

Oh finally! It took until the 5th page for you to show up!! Whew!

I'm with you. Not superstitious and won't play either. And I say "Quiet" at work. (I've posted all the debunking stuff before so won't go there).

But this is a fun thread to read.

I like the idea of sleeping on the couch in work clothes when I'm on call for hospice.
