    Hi,

I am graduating in a week from BSN program. NYP is on my list of places to apply to. When you applied, was there a specific "New Grad" position? Or did you just submit your application through the website without applying for a specific position? I have submitted my resume, references, and unofficial transcripts under the general "submit your app" because there was nothing for new grads. I appreciate your insight and I hope you made it through the application/interview process and have a job!

    Hi
If you are a new Grad you have to apply through the New Grad posting. Otherwise they block your application from going through if you apply to other positions that say "1 year exp preferred or required". Im new grad from Jan 2012 and 7 months experience as RN in a clinic and my application gets a window at the end saying I dont have the 1 year exp though the post says 1 year preferred.
However If you have previous nurse experience (as from working as Associates RN and you are graduating soon from BSN) then you can apply to the "1 year preferred" positions and your application not get blocked from going to a recruiter.

Thanks for your advise. I haven't seen the New Grad posting- I don't think it is up. I have not been applying for anything that says 1 year required because I know they won't look at my app but I will apply to "1 year preferred". Thanks again, I can't believe how difficult the job application process can be and any words of wisdom are appreciated! Best of luck to you.

    Hi esc_newnurse!

I applied to the NYP New Grad Waitlist and got an email stating that I was placed at the wait list. How long should I hear back from them for an interview?

And also, I made a terrible mistake of not reviewing my application before submitting it. I accidentally clicked on the Dec2012/Jan2013 New grad, even though I graduated in 2010 but have only 6 months of experience.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately the Dec12/Jan13 waiting list is only for December new graduate nurses, so if you filled the application correctly before submitting it then it wouldn't have passed the requirements. Because technically your not considered a new grad anymore

Hi everyone! I'm really interested in working at NYP after I graduate this May. I was wondering if anyone could provide me with the recruiter email address because I can't seem to find it online.
I was also wondering if anyone knows if I could start working as a "graduate nurse" before passing my NCLEX at NYP?
    Thanks.

Mermaid135, the only way to apply is to the New Grad Waitlist posting that is put on job sites at end of each semester. Recruiters do not give out their emails to avoid getting flooded with emails from thousands of new grads. So just look for the New Grad Waitlist job post.
NYP gives preference to internal candidates, meaning those that already work at NYP in some capacity for example, CNA, Unit Clerk, Patient Companion, etc. Then those that have to ever mentioned "Connections"/know someone that works at NYP. After that, New Grads with related experience such as CNA or EMT at other hospitals are considered. If you dont have related health experience, know someone or already work at NYP, chances are very slim to get in as a New Grad. And to interview you do not license however it is expected that by the time you start, you have passed NCLEX. NYP also sends these emails "Many of our finest nurses join NYP after having worked a year elsewhere. We encourage you to apply to NYP once you get 1 year of experience elsewhere". Which is not nice to expect us to get hired by another hospital then after a year, to abandon ship on the other hospital who was nice enough to give new grads a chance and take our experience to NYP, who did not want to train us in the first place just because we had no connections or job in the hospital.

hi everyone! i am hoping to try and get some answers regarding applying to positions at NYP. i currently have 9 months experience working as a RN on the high risk ante/postpartum and GYN surgery unit. I am applying for positions and my application keeps getting rejected I get a notification that says basically i do not have 1 year experience and to try again after I do, but the job posting only says 1 year preferred. Anyone know why this is happening?

Why? Well the simple answer is because you don't meet the requirements. Wait a full year and then apply.

I asked because there are postings that say 1 year preferred not required. i already know i do not meet the requirements for the posting that say 1 year required.

Disregard the word preferred....why it is put on the NYP postings? No one knows. A friend and I applied to NYP postings that said "1 year preferred" several times when we had 8 and 9 months experience in oncology and pediatrics, respectively. We got messages that we do not qualify also whether for inpatient or outpatient jobs. So that is it, they Require (not Prefer) 1 year experience. It makes no sense why they use the word Prefer, have people spend time filling out each app and then at the end state in a pop up box message: "Sorry you do not qualify. Your application will not be forwarded to HR." We just gave up on NYP and eventually got hospital jobs elsewhere.
