Accepted job at NYP-Cornell!
Thanks for your advise. I haven't seen the New Grad posting- I don't think it is up. I have not been applying for anything that says 1 year required because I know they won't look at my app but I will apply to "1 year preferred". Thanks again, I can't believe how difficult the job application process can be and any words of wisdom are appreciated! Best of luck to you.

New Grad in NY looking for advice
That is what I figured. But I was kind of hoping some hospitals would hire someone "pending completion of the NCLEX". Well, either way, I suppose I will have more of an advantage once I get my license.

Accepted job at NYP-Cornell!
Hi, I am graduating in a week from BSN program. NYP is on my list of places to apply to. When you applied, was there a specific "New Grad" position? Or did you just submit your application through the website without applying for a specific position? I have submitted my resume, references, and unofficial transcripts under the general "submit your app" because there was nothing for new grads. I appreciate your insight and I hope you made it through the application/interview process and have a job!

New Grad in NY looking for advice
I will be graduating from Pace University in less than a week. (So excited)! I have already begun my job search and I have applied to several hospitals in Westchester County and NYC. I have not heard back from any hospitals except for positions that have already been filled. I am starting to wonder whether or not I should even bother with applying to jobs before I take my NCLEX. I have sent all my paperwork up to the NYS so now it is just a waiting game before I can find out when I can take my boards. I am really hoping to take them by the end of January but I think that is an unrealistic hope. I also really want to enter the NYU or NYP nurse residency programs but when I go onto their website there is no information as to when those programs begin or how to apply for them. Does anyone else have a similar experience they would be willing to share? Should I stop applying to jobs and wait until I have passed before I start applying? I have also made some contacts and have been networking, but that hasn't helped just yet. Thanks for reading!

Pace University BSN/MA- Westchester, Spring 2010
it was more of a personal decision for myself. i learn better at a slower pace. yes, there will be tests nearly every week and quite a few papers as well as like 2 or 3 group projects the first semester. in the summer semester, most (but not all weeks) you will have two tests every week (on the same day). once you get through the summer, i hear it is smooth sailing. since you have a bio degree and you are used to tests every week, i think you will be more than prepared! go for the 1 year and you can always switch to the 2 year if needed. hope to see you at orientation.

congrats on getting in! the campus is just okay... its nothing special. im not sure what the on-campus living situation is like because im a commuter. living in certain parts of westchester can be expensive. try yonkers for starters. or you could always live in dutchess county or rockland county which is a little bit cheaper i think. and you will definitely need a car for clinicals.

Pace University CDP 2011
hey a- I receive financial aid & I know that some of my fellow 2 yr's also receive financial aid. You could always put a call into the financial aid department to double check.... I don't to steer you in the wrong direction if i;m wrong! If you call the office, try asking for the financial aid person that takes care of the CDP nursing program. She is probably the best person to help you.

Pace University CDP 2011
Hi A- Got ur message... i work part time doing babysitting a few times a week and I also fill in at my old job (kind of like per diem). It works out pretty well because there are some times when I'm busier with school than others. In the 2 yr program some semesters are more intense- one semester I think you only take like 2 online classes so that is a very light semester and then towards the end the semesters are like 12 credits (considered full time). I found it hard to commit to a permanent p/t job just because each semester is so different, which is why the babysitting & the per diem work out very well for now.

BEWARE: Pace University

Okay cool. I have the EBP book & Patho if they are the same. And I will be in 70632 with Lewenson. Yes, I was in the 1 year and I decided to drop down to the 2 year program almost mid-way through my first semester. My grades in all of my classes were fine and I was keeping up with the work but it was just very stressful for me so I decided to take the slower route which was the best decision I made for myself. (That is not to sound discouraging, but like you said, it is good to know that is always an option). Good luck!

ALS- I looked at your book list. Sorry, I cant PM you yet because I dont have enough posts on here. Only 5 more to go! Anyway, I the books for 404 are different than the one I used for 404, probably because we have different teachers and are on different campuses. I have the gerontology and calculate books, but I will need them when I take 401 (i am in the 2 year part and I havent taken that course yet). And I already sold my psych book. If you are taking Patho in the fall and if you it turns out to be the same book, I have that. Are you also taking Evidence Based Practice? Also, what section of 624 are you in? I'm taking that this fall too.

I'm in Pleasantville. Here are some helpful tips... dont take 621 your first semester. That is one of your graduate electives. It is a pretty time consuming class and you would be better off taking 624 your first semester and take 621 in your third semester. Be prepared for quite a few group projects your first semester. (There is a group project in I think every class but Patho and Psych). Also, definitely buy your books online or see if you can borrow from a classmate (i may have some books if you want to get in contact). In general, if a teacher has a grading rubric for a paper... follow it exactly and you will likely get a 100. Also, make sure you know your APA format. The professors are sticklers for APA. I guess in general, try to find a good balance between school, studying, and having fun. I know its hard work, but don't try to take the program overly seriously because it will make you go crazy (obvi you need to take it seriously but dont make yourself go crazy- it will burn you out). But other than that the program is doable and the bonus is finishing in only 1 yr!!! You def can do it!!!

Pace University CDP 2011
Hi everyone. I hope this information finds you helpful. I am in Pace's CDP program right now and hopefully I can provide some words of advice and encouragement. Some of the negative things you have read about Pace are true. They are very slow with paperwork, financial aid, etc. Sometimes it seems like no one knows what is really going on. HOWEVER, I have not had a bad experience with any professors yet. They know their stuff and are willing to help you if you are willing to put in the work. And yes, it is ALOT of work. A word to the wise: consider the 2 year program. I know many of you are anxious to take the fast track, but it is very stressful. It is certainly doable but from my experience, the 2 year CDP students are less stressed and get the benefit of learning a lot of difficult material in two years instead of cramming it into one. GOOD LUCK!

I'm sorry to hear that you did not get in to pace There is no harm in taking the test again if Pace is where you really want to go. But there are also plenty of other schools- columbia, suny downstate, dominican- all with good programs. Even CT or NJ has some good programs too, depending on where you live. A community college isnt bad either (RCC & WCC each have a good nursing reputation).... but the wait lists are long. I've been on RCCs wait list for over a year and I just got my acceptance letter a few weeks ago. If i do not get into Pace, i at least have RCC as a backup but Pace is my #1. I still haven't gotten anything from Pace yet, so i guess no news is good news but i am so anxious to find out.
