LPN Starting Salary

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hello

I am not an lpn but am thinking about becoming one and i have researched salaries.

I have seen salaries as low as $12 an hour and as high as $18 an hour.

What is the average starting salary for A NEW lpn?

Just want to know if I will be able to pay off my student loan!

how much do lpns make in michigan?

How about a new LPN in NC? I am considering a move up there, and it would be great if anyone could give me an idea..... Thanks!!

I live in San Antonio, TX.

From what I have learned through my interviewing process:

Hospitals pay about 14-15 an hour with benefits 16-17 w/o benefits.

Nursing homes pay about 18-20 an hour with benefits.

The job that I last interviewed at for a blood bank was 16 an hour with benefits but it also is a more desireable position FOR ME. I loved my job as a Phlebotomist, I wont be dealing with sick people, since they are there to donate blood. No HIV/Hep or any of the other stuff that you would worry about in a different type of atmosphere. I am willing to take a lower paying job for a healthy state of mind!

I think the pay at hospitals is just horrible for what you have to do and as a new graduated LVN I am not willing to throw everything I worked hard for away to bust my butt..:twocents:

I agree I understand no experience as this new title, but come on I'm not straight out of high school either! I really want to find something in a clinical setting or specialist office.:nono:

Some of yall are being jipped

I graduated in july of 07, passed boards in dec. and I just landed a job at a LTC facility starting out at $22.00 an hour. I am in Los Angeles, CA

I just got my LPN license and applied for a job. I have a few years experience working as an EMT on an ambulance, in the ER as a tech, and also experience as a Phlebotomist in a lab. They offered me 13.26/HR working in an urgent care clinic with $2.00 differentials for after 1700 and weekends. I made 12.96/hr as a Phlebotomist and $14.00/hr + diffs as an EMT so I am a little disappointed all my schooling goes towards a pay cut or a $0.30 raise from a phlebotomist position. They said they counted my experience and usually new grads start at $12.00/hr!!! I'm sad

Specializes in MS, TCU, LTAC.

May I make a suggsestion to you. I you have at least 2 years experience try ageancy, they are higher paying usually +$5-$10 an hour more. Also try hospitals & LTAC's they pay more too. Not sure what part of Colorado you live in but if its Denver, then there are lots of job opportunties there. LTAC's in Denver are KIndred, Lifecare & Select Specitity.

Good luck to ya.

Oh my! This is obscene. Meanwhile, CEOs make, on the average, twenty times what workers make. Nursing unions, anybody?

This is NOT OK!!! What part of Colorado are you in?? I live in the Denver Metro area and everyone I know that is a LPN and in my 1st class(I had to take a LOA because my sister was killed in a car accident) have all graduated and are working andare making ATLEAST $17 most of them are making closer to $20 if not more.

Are you applying to LTC or Hospitals?

It depends on where you work and in which state. I live in Colorado and my first job was with a staffing company working in various nursing homes. i made $22 and hated every minute of it. I now work as a school nurse and only make 15.00 an hour. The job is ok. I have 16,000 in school loans and payments are 172.00 a month for the next 10 yrs. It is not worth it. I was planning on becoming a rn and the college told me to take the route of the lpn and then go on and get my rn. BIG BIG mistake!!!

I got the job at an Urgent Care Clinic in a rural town in Southern CO. I since have got some other wages in various other places, such as, LTC and the other local hospitals(the one in my town doesn't hire LPNs). The LTC offers $14/hr and the hospitals offer $13/hr for new grad LPNs but involve a drive of at least an hour to get there. The wage is not great but I've talked myself into feeling better about the job since I will get experience in urgent care which could look good on a resume for future ER positions. I started the job and so far I enjoy it. It will get me through nursing school!!!
