I am not an lpn but am thinking about becoming one and i have researched salaries.

I have seen salaries as low as $12 an hour and as high as $18 an hour.

What is the average starting salary for A NEW lpn?

Just want to know if I will be able to pay off my student loan!

My 1st LPN position paid $14 plus shift and weekend differential. I have over $13,000 in student loans and my payment is less than $70/month.

I think the higher starting wages for LPNs are those that have worked for a facility as an aide before becoming an LPN. My mother-in-law has been an LPN for 20+ years and she's not up to $18/hr base yet.

I think it depends mostly on the facility. As a new grad I was hired as per diem to start off. I made $21.01 an hour and was getting almost a full time schedule, which was great!!!! I did than take the part time position because there were other per diem nurses coming aboard and did not want my hours taken off of me, which they were anyway because facilities look at the dollar amount not the residents safety.

I now make $17.85 an hour. I am in the proccess of hopefully getting a different job making between 18 and 19 an hour.

In a nursing home or a hospital?? your mother in law should be making way more than that! Thats terrible being a nurse for that long and not making more than 18 an hour.

Thats what I thought too... to be a nurse almost her entire adult life and only make a couple dollars more per hour than new grads.

Nursing home, but she hasn't been at the same facility for 20 years (She's worked at several). Nursing homes here (rural central/northeast Ohio) tend to start new hires around the same pay rate. We may get a few cents more per hour for years of experience. Its a slap in the face, in my opinion, for her to make $17 something/hr after 5 years and new grads start at $15.50/hr at her facility.

I am a newer LVN with less than 1 year of experience in DFW, Texas. I earn $18.50 hourly at a nursing home.

My friend is also a newer LVN in DFW who earns $20.00 at a nursing home.

LPN/LVN wages depend on specialty and geographic area. In general, those who work in large cities are paid more. Also, LPNs who work in nursing homes or home health are paid more than those who work in hospitals. Moreover, evening shifts, weekend shifts, and graveyard shifts yield higher hourly rates.

Graduated 2 months ago and my starting pay is $17/hr in a nursing home here in Texas.

It all depends on the area that you live in. I have read some posts where people say they make from as low as $12.00/hr and in my state(Connecticut), new Lpn's start out at at leat $25.00/hr.

When I worked in the boonies of Northern Michigan, I made 15.40. Another LPN that had been a nurse for 23 years and worked at that particular facility for over 10 yrs was making 15.70. That's right... $0.30 more per hour. That's ridiculous.

Now, I work in a metro area for $24.50. It's one of the highest paid areas in the state, though. But the facility is #2 in the state. So... it really varies on where you are geographically.

I live in CT and make $21 at my current job.I've had my license for a little over one year now. I've made up to $25 at a job I didn't care for and left. I also have a job in Mass. and my wage there is $17.75 and that's after a raise from $17

I live in WI. I was working as a nurse tech in the float pool of a hospital. When I past my license for LPN I got a raise in base pay from 12.10 to 15.21 and differantal from 1.00 to 2.50. So altogether I make 17.71/hr. But I didn't realized I wasn't getting paid right for a month. :uhoh21: I have direct deposit and had picked up pay stubs. good luck.
