Anyone work with a prima donna?

I do. One stated this morning, "Well, I don't do direct patient care anymore." The admin just said, "WHEN you are called into a room to do care, xyz." Twice. I have the same job and today showered a resident because the CNAs were feeding and delivering trays yada yada yada and I had a guy going out with his family who stank - he doesn't let us touch him much and on rounds this morning I told the aides if he refused to call me. Of course, the one who had him didn't. Family shows up to take him to a birthday party and after all the discussion (I'm on a med cart because someone called off) asked, "Can you give him one now?" "Yes." Locked up the cart, gave him the shower, the aide got him dressed because I got called to the phone for a family call, and I finished the pass.

So, are you trying to prove that your coworker is a prima donna or get kudos for how much of a prima donna you aren't?

Is it really such a big deal that you showered a patient that you had to post about it? LOL!

My prima donna is our marketing director. ALWAYS fighting with her about what type of patients we can/can not accept. Had to try and explain to her that I wasn't being stubborn today when I said "No" to the guy with a positive AFB smear. (She is being lead to believe that SHE has the final say on admissions & unfortunately the ED tends to side with her - both non nurses). Took awhile to "educate" +AFB/TB/Negative air pressure room, etc. I still wouldn't be surprised if this guy shows up tomorrow :devil:

Did I mention that the HR leaked to me that this prima donna with no previous healthcare experience makes more $$ than me!

Several things.

She is a prima donna.

It is a big deal when a unit manager showers a patient.

It is a big deal - and I hear it all the time in here - that management does nothing. Well, I am officially management and do patient care when we are short as we were today.

And yes, I like to be praised sometimes. I did good today. I juggled a lot of balls and came out with my sanity intact and my residents and bosses and families pleased.

I'm sorry that you find it necessary to tear someone down when they are feeling good. But hey, ain't no skin offa my butt.

ouch! i'm sure you didn't mean to be so nasty.

sometimes we all need to vent, and when we have to do someone else's job for them because they're too much of a prima donna to do it themselves, it's worth venting about.

these things happen, and it can be really frustrating especially when you have to do both others' work and your work.

There are CNA's that think they know everything and will tell nurses what to do, especially in my case since I'm a new grad and most of my CNA's have been in the business for 10, 20, and even 30 years. And sometimes they think that nurses should know all, which is not always the case.

the only reason our PD still has a job is that a member of management doesn't want to lose their smoking buddy...that's what the little birds say...

I found one of our PD's from the past not to be very funny. She succeeded in badgering everyone to the point of distraction and many would have liked to do her bodily harm. She was, like P_RN described, joined at the hip to the DON, and loved to tell everyone. She found out just how much the DON valued her when she killed a resident. Fired by her buddy, just like that. And word of what she did spread like wildfire in the community. Have always wondered what happened to her since she managed to escape prison for killing that poor resident.

She found out just how much the DON valued her when she killed a resident. Fired by her buddy, just like that. And word of what she did spread like wildfire in the community. Have always wondered what happened to her since she managed to escape prison for killing that poor resident.

Sounds like the script for the next episode of Days of our Lives (or possibly Nurse Jackie)....:clown:
