I'm sure I'll decide once I start clinicals, but I'm thinking either OR or oncology. Or possibly becoming a lactation nurse or a school nurse. One of the perks of nursing: SO many choices! What about you??

Well, I am SO new that I am not familiar with the area/specialty names-but I want to work with transplant patients and their families-especially kidney. (If anyone could throw me areas that cover these, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!)

Specializes in ER;med/surg.

I guess I'm just boring!! LOL...I'm an LPN on a Med/Surg unit and I just love it. I plan on staying in Med/Surg for the next couple of years. Maybe then SCU or ICU, but I really like Med/Surg. I also Love working Nights. I guess I'm a strange breed.

Specializes in ER;med/surg.

Should have added, I graduate with ADN "RN" in 5 weeks.

Got a job in the ED while precepting there in Feb. Can't believe I have only 3 1/2 weeks left until finals!!!!!!! :balloons:

I am going to become a neonatal ICU nurse.

There are almost 60 students in my class and I've found that about 80% of the students want to work in either ICU (includes adult, neuro, pediatric, and neontal), L&D, or ER.

Specializes in Adult Med-Surg, Rehab, and Ambulatory Care.

Mother/baby --> NICU is my goal, but I must say that Psych nursing is really pulling at me...

Specializes in ICU, CM, Geriatrics, Management.

Med-Surg for a year.

Then cardiac unit.

Then, perhaps, management.

Specializes in Home Health, Primary Care.

I've always loved L&D, but went to NICU on Wednesday and it wasn't too bad, so that's a possibility and also, I've always had a love of forensics. A couple years ago, found out you can combine forensics and nursing, so I just might do that.

Specializes in OB-Gyn/Primary Care/Ambulatory Leadership.
What I am saying is - don't focus on the most popular like SICU or L&D look at some of the out- of - the - limelight specialties they too have an awful lot to offer.

I'm not choosing L&D because it's "in the limelight." I'm choosing it because I'm already a damn good lactation consultant, with a lot to offer any L&D ward. Our hospital does not currently have a lactation consultant and they refer all complicated cases to me already. So this is just an extension of what I'm already doing anyway, and WANT to do for the rest of my life. You might say it's been decided for me by fate or whatever. :)

If it wasn't for that, I would probably want to go into Oncology.

I have a better idea of where I DON'T want to work:

Peds/PICU/NICU/L&D/Psych -- :nono:

I can't decide between ED, ICU, or Oncology. And yes, I'm considering a burn unit. We have a good burn center at Hopkins and I'm thinking of doing a 'share day' to see what it's like.

Well Baby Nursery Or L&d First, But Then After Have Some Experience Wanna Go To Nicu-its Been A Passion Of Mine To Work On Babies For A Long Time

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.
