For Those of You Who Have Press-Ganey At Your Hospital

I have a question for those of you whose administration uses Press-Ganey. When someone gives you all positive scores, does this get back to you all?

My point: I was hospitalized in February of this year and the nurses who worked with me were all tops. They were awesome, so when I got the Press-Ganey, I did not throw it away. Instead, I gave everything pertaining to the nursing staff top scores because they deserved it. I'm wondering if they will be somehow recognized because they all were excellent, and I would like that to happen.

I hear so much on here about Press-Ganey and how the staff hears about the negatives, but do the nurses hear about the positives which they so deserve?

I'm just curious because I've been wondering about this for a little while.

Where I work, they post the names of individual nurses who were mentioned by name in a survey for that particular month.

We never did.........only the negative.

I also know this for a fact because after what I like to call 'nutty needlestick night' I had to sign in to have baseline labs drawn, paperwork, etc. Two weeks later, lo and behold, the PG survey.

While there may have been a way for them to track respondents specifically, I was pretty darn sure my facility wouldn't have spent the extra $$ that whatever that part of the program would cost to enable them to do such, so I know it went back anonymously.

Man, did I rave on my nurse! And the ER doc! Woo hoo, that was some crack team.(Who's idea it was on the first place, BTW).

Nope, nada. Never heard a thing... Oh well.

Specializes in LTC, med-surg, critial care.

On my last unit the NM would post all the comments (good, bad and "neutral") in the break room for all the staff to see. We were also one of the worst scoring floors in the hospital. If you were mentioned by name everyone knew unless it was a negative comment, then she would omit the name.

My new unit just got a better score than the "VIP" unit at the same hospital. My NM does not post any of the comments but will post a unit wide e-mail if someone gets named by a patient/family thanking them for making an impression on patient/family.

My boss posts our scores on her door weekly, with good and bad things circled. The photocopies of the surveys are put in the break room that everyone can read if they want to. Most of them come back anonymous but some people do put their names on it. Our unit committee looks at the scores and gets a printout of all the comments that are written in categorized as positive, negative, and neutral. I have never been mentioned in one, so I don't know if anyhting positive happens if you are. I have also never seen names mentioned in any negative comments. We won some sort of p-g award, I don't pay atention to that cause i think its dumb, haha!

Wow, my place we first got balloons and a thank-you-gram. The volunteers would come to the floor with masses of (latex) yellow balloons.

After the no latex rule, we'd get a lapel pin in bronze (plastic). 10 bronzes and you'd get a silver colored (plastic). The thank-you-grams were posted in the nurses' station for a month and passed on to you. Most of us kept them in our cubbyhole for souvenirs.

I still have some of my lapel pins. The negatives were discussed in private. As much as I dislike the PG system it was nice to see the bulletin board filled with the notes.

Specializes in ICU, ER, EP,.

Our postitves are posted, I love to read them. If there were any negative they were addressed in private. My unit generally scores >90 which is excellent because our bonus is dependent upon it.

I hate press ganey.

Specializes in OB, Med-Surg.

we have sometimes seen the positive with press ganey. it started out all negative though. we have all been speaking out too that we are tired of hearing all negative.

Actually the Unit I work on won the Presidents Award for having the highest Press-Gainey in the hospital which means we won 2000 dollars to spend however we choose and our Unit is plastered with positive reviews and comments.

P.S. we already knew we were the best unit we just wanted the recognition. lol

That's what we do. They post the postive review on a buletin board with a "thank you to all the people that cared for the patient, including the techs..........of course my name as a charge nurse is never mentioned, but I'm not bitter. :lol2:

Well at least the name got omitted from the bad comments! On my floor, the comments get posted VERBATIM. =( It chaps my hide.

Where I used to work you never heard of the positive, but the negative everyone heard about, especially your name.
