Specializes in critical care.

This week, I have learned....

1. Meth is a hell of a drug.

2. When meth is combined with cocaine and booze, it can destroy a 28 year old heart.

3. When you have one random patient across the unit from your other patients, and that patient is the only patient without psych issues, that poor patient is unfortunately going to be a bit neglected.

4. A discharge with EMS transport, ICU transfer and admission happening simultaneously (literally all less than 5 minutes apart from one another) 2 hours before you're supposed to be giving report means you'll be giving report before your last round of (very late) meds will be given.

5. Never been happier for vacation time. (Today is day 4/15.)

6. All play and no work makes ixchel a very happy girl. :)

That's all I got this week! Not much to learn when all I've been doing is playing! :)

What have you learned this week?

Specializes in ER.

I learned that I am very well liked at my Per Diem job and can get a position there one day after my beloved manager resigned after being used and abused by upper management.

Specializes in pediatrics, occupational health.

I learned i have a nickname at work - "the Vampire Lady"...due to the Tspot testing I implemented.

I regrettably learned that people are not as nice as they appear to be in front of their boss - brown nosing in action....ew.!!!

I learned that my coworkers are the best medicine! They make me laugh all the time!

Dieting is useless when your friend brings donuts and coffee and you're a stress eater.

Welcome back 3 lbs I lost last week.

Some people like you more when you're mean to them.

Specializes in Acute Care Pediatrics.

I learned you can work somewhere for five years and still forget how to get to MRI.

Specializes in 15 years in ICU, 22 years in PACU.

1) It's OK to use a calculator at work to figure out how much you are gonna make with 2.5 hours of overtime, 12 hours of call back on a weekend with 3.5 hours on night shift and forgetting to put in for holiday pay on the 4th of July. Do drip calculations in your head. (not)

2) You can never find a dog when you knock over a cup of popcorn.

3) Some obscure paper says something about a black box warning for Emend and Zofran causing QT lengthening and now your Anesthesiologist won't write for Zofran when your patient is puking up their socks.

4) I made my own blackberry cobbler with hand picked blackberries and pancake batter mix. Yum

1. I never thought this forum would be my therapy and help me deal with my dad's sudden passing.

2. It's never too late to go for your dreams, no matter how old you may feel. 32 is NOT old:)

3. I will have to sacrifice leaving my husband and kids for an Accelerated nursing program and even though it will be hard, it's all worth it in the end.

1. I never thought this forum would be my therapy and help me deal with my dad's sudden passing.

3. I will have to sacrifice leaving my husband and kids for an Accelerated nursing program and even though it will be hard, it's all worth it in the end.

1. I'm sorry about your Dad.

2. 32 is YOUNG(er than me) I can be your young, unwed Mom!

3. Depends on your husband

1. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. You can get great emotional support here and some laughs.

2. I'm 30 and while some days I may feel old I know I am indeed not old.

3. It's good that your husband cares for your choices enough to hold down the fort. Mine forced me to go back to school.

I made my own blackberry cobbler with hand picked blackberries and pancake batter mix. Yum

Yea, um, you've been kind of scarce lately, so I think you may need to provide a peace offering to all of us here. I'll make the coffee!

Specializes in Behavioral Health.

1. If you remove the metal front plate from one of these, it has a plywood back, is quite heavy, and can be used to break a security camera and try to dig your way out of a double locked behavioral health unit. If you're playing along at home and recall I had a patient burrow into another patient's room last week, this is the same patient. He's very creative. 2. I hate my job. I love my future job (I'm in school), but I wish I were a med/surg nurse right now. I'd unclog PEG tubes all day rather than hold down one poor soul to give them antipsychotics to prevent them from hurting me or themselves. I love my coworkers, though.

3. A male duck is called a drake.

4. I taught a technologically challenged coworker how to use Tinder. "You just pick the ones you want to have sex with?" ... Well, no... actually, sort of... okay, yeah, that's basically true. I didn't learn anything, I just wanted to share that.

This was kind of a terrible week... hopefully I'll learn something fun and interesting next week.
