Great nurse thinking!

((HUGS)) for you to have to deal with rest.

I'm a nurse, and a MALE. I had a similar incident myself last summer. My wife was out of town and I needed to cut up a tree that had came down. I had the misfortune of the chainsaw connecting with my knee. It really wasn't as bad as it sounds, but I knew it was going to need stitches.

I was terribly dirty, sweaty with wood chips all over me so I wasn't about to go to the emergency room like that. A bunch of paper towels wrapped with duct tape, contained the bleeding and allowed me to take a quick shower. I felt better and I'm guessing the ER staff was much more appreciative.. :)

You are SUCH a male!

We're do-it-yourself'rs, if it's not something we can fix ourselves then it wasn't meant to be fixed. Cyanoacrylate, aka "superglue" is also sold under the trade name "dermabond" which is a commonly used surgical glue, so using superglue isn't that far off.

My S/O is a truck driver.

ETA: my ex is a psychiatrist, my current is a truck driver. He's not a do-it-yourself, orrrrrrrrrrrrrr, he shouldn't be.

I superglued my mother-in-law's finger. She cut it while slicing potatoes. She's on Coumadin. Would NOT stop bleeding. Everyone insisted she needed stitches. I ran it under some cold water, poured a little H2O2 on it to disinfect, then held it together and superglued it. Everyone was quite impressed with my field nursing skills. :)

I always said duct tape fixes everything! :roflmao:

Serious question: Anything wrong with that approach?

Did he wash it first?

Specializes in Peds/Neo CCT,Flight, ER, Hem/Onc.

If you can't fix it with duct tape, super glue, Durham's Rock Hard, liquid nails or caulk it ain't worth fixing.

Specializes in Healthcare risk management and liability.

When I did my Wilderness Medicine trauma training, they told us all about the wonders of pads and tampons to cover or plug up bleeding things in the field. My step-daughter is an Army combat medic, and she confirmed that she was trained on this, too. I now have a supply of pads and tampons for exactly this reason, though my wife had some questions when she first saw them, what with her hysterectomy several years back.

Specializes in LTC Rehab Med/Surg.

I like the way the male mind works.

The alternative is screaming, crying, and hysterics.
