hi all..

just wondering how other health care professionals relieve stress? please share your secrets so that other health care professionals like myself can find new ways to relax after a rough shift. ;)

Exercise.

Time with family.

Long swims. all you hear is bubbles.

swimming is the greatest ever sport. (thats in caps for good reason)

find a good sized pool and swim at least twice a week and hit the sauna afterwards.

I go hiking about once a month. Rain/shine/snow/heat, no matter what the conditions are, it is great to just go wandering in the woods and whatnot.

On a daily basis however I go up to my daughter's room after I get off of work and look at her and give her a little kiss. After a long hard day, nothing relieves my stress like seeing her so serene. Then I come back downstairs, take a nice hot shower with some good smelling soap, and maybe have a snack before going to bed with nice fluffy pillows under my head (my one big indulgence at home---nice pillows and bedding). I work until about 11pm most nights, so I am rather exhausted by the time I hit home.

Eat, smoke:smokin:, veg out on the couch:sofahider, play with my kids, laugh alot:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:, and surf the net:crash_com.

P.S. No :balloons: or :clown:, they scare me. And yes, I did have alot of fun with all of these icons.:smokin:

Shopping is definitely my vice. I also take the little one to the park, zoo, library, museum, anywhere not hospital oriented. We live by a Lake so that's a nice option too. Very tranquil and beautiful. If non of these are for you - try a power walk.

Hobbies and travel plans. I make sure I always have something exciting to look forward to either at the end of my shift, the weekend, or within the next two-three weeks. I do something exciting, or go away for the weekend, and don't think about school, family, or home life. When I come back, I'm fresh and ready to start studying/working again. I get most depressed & stressed out when I have nothing exciting to look forward to, relaxing just doesn't cut it for me.
