Scrub tops that don't shrink to your armpits; anyone know of any?

  1. Hello, all!

I need to purchase some new scrub tops for work, and I have a teensy dilemma. I can't decide which ones! I have been wearing the Landau printed v-neck tops with the two patch pockets on the tummy area because they were required for where I worked, but I HATE them and am quite eager to get something else. Not only do they fade like they're dissolving right in the wash (after three washes they looked old!), but, more to the point of this post, THEY SHRINK big time. I ended up with tops that, when I raised my arms over my head, showed my belly!

So. Any suggestions? I tried the Cottonality (the soft brushed-cotton kind) tops, and they were WONDERFUL- shrunk just a little, but stayed long enough to cover what needed to be covered. Unfortunately, there are limited colors, and the white ones are really difficult to keep from looking dingy, not to mention stain-magnets.

I've been looking at other options in the Landau catalog and online, but I'm afraid that ALL of their printed tops are alike. Anyone know for sure?

Do they make scrub tops for tall people, like they make pants for tall people, or am I just out of luck and stuck wearing solid colors?

I'm not a slight girl by any means, so anyone who can relate to this, please let me know what you ended up with!

    Thank you!

    -K.

Hmm....never had that problem with Landau - might need to go for a size larger. I'd also be willing to bet there's someone around where you are who will custom sew scrubs for you. They're not hard to do at all....and generally cheaper that way.

It'll just be trial and error with the scrubs AND the shoes to find what works for you (once you've limped your way through a shift after the first few hours you'll know what I mean about the shoes...some you can live in but not work in without hurting)

I never noticed any problem with shrinkage or fading with my Landau's. Never had any problem with my belly showing, but my tee shirt sleeves always were longer than the arms of the scub. Then again, maybe your breasts are bigger than mine :chuckle

Actually I find Landau to be the best for me. I think they are made very well and are very reasonable. Have you ever tried Cherokee? They are also made very well, but even their extra small is too big for me. I found the worst in shrinkage is Peaches.

Do a search on this forum and there was a thread about uniforms not long ago which included the web site addresses.

I bookmarked and few and they are awesome!

Let me know if you need any of the sites, they are really easy to find.

My scrubs didn't shrink, i think my caboose got bigger.

Always have a hard time finding scrub tops where if you lift your arms, people can't see through the sleeve what color your bra is.

I order from a small uniform company out of Huntington, WV. They make and sell them so it winds up being cheaper. 10$ for tops, 13 for pants. Comfortable!!! Not prone to fading.

I have one set from this place that i bought back in 97, they are just now getting to the point where you can read the newspaper through them.

LPN2Be2004, that is histerical. DO you have a web link for the Co. in Huntington, or a phone# so that I could order a catalog? That is really an excellent price for scrubs.

Most of my scrubs come from Jasco, they don't shrink much, if any. Only problem with one set was the variation in color between top and pants. I wanted a snap front shirt, but it was on a different page to the pants, slightly different fabric. I decided it was close enough that I wasn't going to worry about it, and no-one else has said anything. Their prices aren't bad, either.

We can only wear plain colors, no prints, and we also have a banned list of colors....no black, no red, no denim, etc. etc.

My favorite company is Tafford. Very reliable, sizewise. Penneys has some that are ok, too.

I always buy a size larger than I wear to cover for shrinkage and to be very loose. I buy all my clothes a size to big.

Mine are all custom made by my wife (I am so lucky) so they all fit me perfectly. It helps when the person making the scrubs is also a Nurse and knows about all of the design flaws in patterns through personal experience. I sure benefit from her love of sewing as a hobby! If you can find someone who sews, or if you can sew, I highly recommend custom made scrubs. You get better fabric patterns too!

That makes me think of something else. There are PLENTY of print scrub tops out there, but notice about 95% are feminine?? If someone came up with scrub designs with prints that are more for guys, a fortune would be made. Not all like to wear a solid color or the Hawaiian shirt pattern.

As for any ideas on what there prints might be, i wouldn't know for sure what kind of pattern they would like

Re: Mens scrubs. Dickies Workwear is now making scrubs. http://www.dickiesmedical.com/

I too never had Landau problems. White swan is really durable, but really runs small.

I got my uniforms usually from a local company that primarily supplied public health nurses, but they're closed now. You could get them custom made/altered for only $5 more.

There are some really cute scrub tops that look like weskits with sleeves. Theyre more like a blouse than a plain top.
