Scrub tops that don't shrink to your armpits; anyone know of any?

Hello, all!

I need to purchase some new scrub tops for work, and I have a teensy dilemma. I can't decide which ones! I have been wearing the Landau printed v-neck tops with the two patch pockets on the tummy area because they were required for where I worked, but I HATE them and am quite eager to get something else. Not only do they fade like they're dissolving right in the wash (after three washes they looked old!), but, more to the point of this post, THEY SHRINK big time. I ended up with tops that, when I raised my arms over my head, showed my belly!

So. Any suggestions? I tried the Cottonality (the soft brushed-cotton kind) tops, and they were WONDERFUL- shrunk just a little, but stayed long enough to cover what needed to be covered. Unfortunately, there are limited colors, and the white ones are really difficult to keep from looking dingy, not to mention stain-magnets.

I've been looking at other options in the Landau catalog and online, but I'm afraid that ALL of their printed tops are alike. Anyone know for sure?

Do they make scrub tops for tall people, like they make pants for tall people, or am I just out of luck and stuck wearing solid colors?

I'm not a slight girl by any means, so anyone who can relate to this, please let me know what you ended up with!

Thank you!

Re: Mens scrubs. Dickies Workwear is now making scrubs. http://www.dickiesmedical.com/

I too never had Landau problems. White swan is really durable, but really runs small.

I got my uniforms usually from a local company that primarily supplied public health nurses, but they're closed now. You could get them custom made/altered for only $5 more.

There are some really cute scrub tops that look like weskits with sleeves. Theyre more like a blouse than a plain top.

Wow... Dickies has some really nice scrubs!!!

my complaint is the v-neck. How many nurses can do their shift without bending over? I first noticed this problem while holding for a spinal tap. Havent worn it since. Only wear round neck T-shirts.

For V-neck shirts i buy the next size down and that can fix the problem for me.

Or i buy some plain white cotton and sew a half-circle piece of the fabric toward the bottom of the V-neck so i'm not flashing people

I just pm'd you my list of scrub websites.

Nancy, I pm'd you. :D

Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions. I've found and ordered some tops, so hopefully they'll work out.

Thanks again!

You know what makes me mad? Spending an arm and a leg for a matching jacket and top, then when you wash it you find out it's nowhere NEAR permanent press!

The REAL definition of permanent press:

permanent press-- the permanent status of cotton clothing as wrinkled-up.

Best option i can give is to dry your scrubs on meduim, then put them on a cool setting for about 10 minutes. If you can do your laundry at home

The dryers at the laundromat have two setting: deep fry and refrigerator. I have to iron everything typically when i get back from there.

I agree......you are better off having scrubs made.......a top can be made with 2 yds fabric, a skirt 1 yd, warmup type jacket 3 yds. Its the only way to get a good fit and you get to pick the prints/colors. I get compliments all the time on my Mary Englebreit tops. Watch the fabric stores and stock up on fabrics you like when on sale.....then when you are low, have a bunch made asssembly line. I stock up on sale fabrics...then when school i out and work is slow I sew like crazy. I have the luck:chuckle to have no shoulders to speak of and big boobs, plus I am short. I have just about given up on V-necks, nothing like putting on an old guys shoes and he can look at your belly button!!!!:imbar

I also make a majority of my Scrub tops. I am surprised at how expensive tops can be; also some of the patterns I just don't like. Scrub tops that I make usually cost me about $10. Plus, I can find really unique fabrics. I usually buy my scrub pants. Solid colors are easy and cheap to find. My advice find a friend who knows how to sew, that way you can find prints you like, they will be made to fit you, and also one of a kind!!!

I almost always wear a fitted knit top, underneath a long-sleeved scrub jacket.

I HATE scrub tops. Scratchy, stiff, can't move without flashing people, etc. ;)

I need to learn how to sew! :)
