  1. Can you tell me a good site to learn about this? Ive heard our physicians talking about this and honestly havent heard about it before . Thank youl
  2. Thank you for all who replied. Our infant did well and was released. The physician removed the line.
  3. WE received a longterm antibiotic 3 week old with a picc line from a university hospital. My question is are dressing change care the same as adults? Also , who removes the line when finished with antibiotics? Our instructions are to change the dressing once a week. Do you do an alcohol ring followed by betadine ring , let dry and then apply an opsite? My question comes from how tender an infant skin is. This is the first one I have seen. Thank you for any reply.
  4. I work in a general PEDS and do not have a PICU here. But, over the years we have had some very sick kids we have worked with before shipping them to a university. My first thought would be that there is a lot to learn. Sometimes we get impatient with the process. I bet you have experienced and learned a lot, more than what I have seen. As far as your question, our staff people love working with kids and have mostly been here 20 years.
  5. Ive been a peds nurse for over 20 years . I ,too, get told I need to be more independent from a few fellow staff people. Are you a perfectionist? This is what I am. I remember to tell myself that my main goal is to give the best care for my patients. If I am unsure of something it is better to be safe than sorry. Whatever it takes to give the best care to my patients I will do and ignore the rest.

I work in a peds unit. We do not add K unless the child has voided a decent amount.
  7. We are using a pic line on a 3 week old receiving long term antibiotics. We received from a university hospital. Is pic dressing changes the same as adults? Also, my understanding is, it is a long pic line. How do you and who removes it? This is the first time I have seen this in an infant. Thanks for any replys.

Replying to the closed unit ob,we have this too. Our supervisors can issue a staffing emergency and the ob staff can float. They will be assigned baths , lights and vitals. The problem over the years, when someone trys to decide the ob or float person not use to adult care needs to take assignments. These days there are very few "easy patients".
  9. I am so excited! I have flat feet and these work great for me. Im ordering two pairs and cant wait to get them. Thanks!
  10. Does anyone know if these shoes called earth shoes in the late 70"s are still available in white? If so, where or what web site. Thank you. Best shoes I ever had for work.
  11. Angus, great explanation. Weve always used normal saline and never asked why.
  12. Ive had 2 same day 2 prbc infusions in the last week. One patient was sent home and bloodwork to be drawn 4 days later. The other patient had an H and H drawn right after the blood was flushed and was discharged after the doctor knew the results. We draw right after flushed.
  13. my complaint is the v-neck. How many nurses can do their shift without bending over? I first noticed this problem while holding for a spinal tap. Havent worn it since. Only wear round neck T-shirts.
