Hello, all!
I need to purchase some new scrub tops for work, and I have a teensy dilemma. I can't decide which ones! I have been wearing the Landau printed v-neck tops with the two patch pockets on the tummy area because they were required for where I worked, but I HATE them and am quite eager to get something else. Not only do they fade like they're dissolving right in the wash (after three washes they looked old!), but, more to the point of this post, THEY SHRINK big time. I ended up with tops that, when I raised my arms over my head, showed my belly!
So. Any suggestions? I tried the Cottonality (the soft brushed-cotton kind) tops, and they were WONDERFUL- shrunk just a little, but stayed long enough to cover what needed to be covered. Unfortunately, there are limited colors, and the white ones are really difficult to keep from looking dingy, not to mention stain-magnets.
I've been looking at other options in the Landau catalog and online, but I'm afraid that ALL of their printed tops are alike. Anyone know for sure?
Do they make scrub tops for tall people, like they make pants for tall people, or am I just out of luck and stuck wearing solid colors?
I'm not a slight girl by any means, so anyone who can relate to this, please let me know what you ended up with!
Thank you!
-K.
I always wear a t-shirt under my scrub tops, no sense giving a free show! Also have made a few tops, very easy to do, in fact I have tons of fabric and need to get busy making some new ones. have never perfected pants though and generally buy the $9.97 twill ones in the proper colors at WalMart. I have gotten some nice tops from Jasco, ordering online but have noiced that some brands do shrink more than others. For a tall nurse, sewing and making a longer top might make more sense.
I find that the new Downy Advanced, combined with pulling the scrubs out of the dryer and hanging them up just as soon as the dryer finishes, eliminates my having to iron a THING....
What I'm looking for and cannot find, are the disposable scrubs - I work in hemodialysis and it would make matters MUCH easier to just chunk the scrubs at the end of the day rather than ruin my good ones with bleach all the time and it would save me on laundry too, since the vast majority my laundry I do is my scrubs - I've checked around online, asked around different uniform shops, to no avail....
anyone with any suggestions on that?

If you're going to wal-mart to get your fabric, they have the patterns there. Typically the employees that work in the craft dept. have helped so many ppl with getting material and patterns for scrubs that they can probably go to the exact drawer that the pattern is sitting in and get it.
i like peaches scrubs. they have lots of cottons and blends. i haven't had problems w/ shrinkage w/ them. i often buy from jacklmarcus.com they don't have a huge selection, but they have really super prices-including free shipping on orders over $50.00. also uniform city.com has good deals. i like wearing my own scubs vs those that they supply us at work that are the consistency of poster board.
I've found its getting the right fit and sticking with it. Landau and Cherokee look good, wash well and feel soft. I wear the newer "soft scrubs" sometimes and they are real comfy too. After you wash the ones from Landau and Cherokee a few times, they are even softer. (As others have posted also, I never had a problem with shrinkage or fading with them). Again, try to get the right fit..they're all made differently it seems, and it's a bit frustrating at first, but I've found it works. No "free shows" when you bend over and no stiff, scratchy material.
Well! I found out that Landau makes prints in the Cottonality scrub design (the 100% cotton ones), so I've ordered seven of them. I got one white top (to go with the pants I have that don't match anything) and 6 prints. I had used the solid color Cottonality before, and it was the only one of mine that didn't shrink (I don't know...maybe it's just me, but I like 'em to mostly cover my butt!), so when I found out that they had prints, too, I went wild. I now will have enough tops to last me into 2008.
I think when the holidays roll around I'm going to try to find someone who can make scrub tops so I can get some in special holiday-type prints. Until then, these will work just fine. Thanks for all of the suggestions!
Nancy, I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to post that list you sent me on here for others.
Nancy's list:
My 2 favorites will show the matching solids for all of the prints, both are user friendly:
Seem to have a really good selection at decent prices, some I have bought from over the years, some I haven't but have heard good things about :

Oh Jeez! I never thought about the flashing part!!! I think I will be a bit more cautious from now on. So far Cherokee and Landau seem to work the best for me. I found Peaches to be cheaper, but shrinkage is bad. I thought I had gained 10 lbs in a week.
