Hi everyone,

Me and my wife are thinking about relocation to a family friendly livable city in US with warm climate.

We are from Vancouver Canada area, both of us are RNs but my wife has been a stay home mom for last few years (and going to keep doing it for another couple years).

We have 3 kids who need elementary school, I will be looking for a full time position in critical care. We will be looking at buying a house too.

In the mean time we were looking at SF California area and central Florida...

What would you suggest?

Thanks!

North Carolina- our housing prices are reasonable in the Triangle if you avoid the Inner Beltline of Raleigh, we have Duke,

Wake Med and UNC, and we have really pleasant seasons. Summer gets a little ridiculous (over 100 sometimes), but there is something to be said for having lots of sunny days in the 50s in January and February.

We also have the SUN, which I'm sure you don't see often in Vancouver (I did watch the X files growing up...)

This is my goal! RTP

Perhaps we could wait for OP to return and read all of these helpful posts before further contributions? Without feedback from the OP, it feels like we've been wasting our time, in my opinion.

Look at the OP's posting history. This is their usual style. Ask a question, get responses and rarely return until there is another question to be asked.

He hasn't been in Vancouver long enough to rust! I grew up there and trust me the rainy season is miserable. But when it's sunny, it truly is a beautiful place to live.

Florida? yich... I jumped on the 10 back to California and never looked back.

My advice, and my home is the FL panhandle. Still have the advantages of the FL weather minus some of the chaos and more family friendliness of south FL! Best wishes, and good luck to you and your family!!

PS our beaches are hands down some of the most beautiful in the world! The gulf side is much better than the Atlantic side!

south east Texas!

Check out Amarillo Texas population about 120,000 2 hospitals and several rehad hospitals. Both hospitals are hiring and even offering sign bonus. Real estate prices not too terrible. Good schools friendly people and weather here not too bad we can get cold but not for extended periods we get some snow but usually only one real sizable one usually anywhere from December to March.

I've worked with several Canadian nurses here in south Texas who came down and never left.

Old thread but why doesn't anyone consider the foothills in Northern California, how many times do I have to say how wonderful it is before anyone believes me??

High taxes, high cost of living, insane state government......

I lived in Florida for 14 years. IMHO it is not very family friendly especially the areas you are thinking about.

Florida has a very high crime rate especially in the more urban areas

It has 2 seaasons. Warm and humid, and hot and humid

Public schools anywhere in the state are the worst. If you want your kids to learn anything and be safe be prepared to pay for private school to the tune of 10k/yr per kid

The Governor of the state is the poster boy for Medicare fraud

Expensive neighborhoods in gated communties still have crime. Most of it committed by teens who live in the community.

As a single person, or married with no kids, the coastal areas of Florida are awesome and a lot of fun. I looked at it completely different when we had kids though.

I live here, as well as all of my friends, and live pretty comfortably even as a single parent. Just how well are you non Californians living?

Insane state government is a matter of opinion.
