And that's a good thing, 'cos I is one.

I started my new med/surg job a week ago. No one is being mean, everyone is helpful, and aside from the inevitable socially inept person who comes off like a jerk because she can't help it, they're compassionate and caring. Ad even she cares, she just comes off badly.

Good to hear.

I'm orienting the new night shift charge nurse and she said something similar that she couldn't believe how nice and helpful we are. It's kind of sad that she was surprised because she said her last job everyone from the management, doctors, CNA's "yelled" at her.

Way to go Sue!! I am glad that we are nice some of the time. I think the few bad apples spoil the whole bunch sometimes. Know what I mean? I remember when I was a new grad, how thrilled I was to join the nursing world. Most of the nurses I meet are very cool people and a "club" that I am proud to be a part.

:yeah::yeah::yeah: congratulations!!

My current assignment is fantastically awesome, too. It is tempting as a permanent home, if I desire sauch.

Thank you for that comment. You just summed up what I've been trying to say in another post, Nursing is busy and stressful. Most of the time we work short staffed, work a lot of overtime, but, it's mind over matter. It's what yu make of it. I like what you said a lot. Thanks for the good words about nursing. Like others said here. Nurses are cool people, are usually nice and want good things for those they work with and their pt's. So thanks again.

This is fabulous news, Suesquatch!

I know you had a rough run in LTC, so it's great to hear that you are liking your new post at the hospital. Good luck, and continue to hang in there!

for me, there's nothing that matches the camaraderie of nurses who work with and for ea other.

where i work, if a nurse doesn't do something that's required, then someone just picks it up and does it.

we do for ea other whenever needed.

no one slacks or takes advantage.

we work together, in the total sense of the word.

good for you, sue.

this could be the beginning of something beautiful. :balloons:

I have only been an LPN for a year, and am still transitioning and forget that I am a nurse, even with all of the duties that I do that only a nurse does. But, the thing about some nurses being REALLY cool also hit me yesterday when I was doing my 2nd day of orientation as a per diem in med surg. I was watching those nurses on that floor...in all of their craziness, arguements and all, they really loved each other and they were happy that I was there (my regular job is in the clinic of the same hospital). They took time to show me things, laughed at my slight mistakes (especially hanging the IV bag, then letting the darned thing leak all over the floor because I forgot to close it). I said to myself "I AM a NURSE. And, I will learn because I am determined to". That made it okay, and I also appreciated the fact that I have a variety of choices as an LPN open to me; the clinic, a vaccination nurse, home care nurse and now, med-surg (and the ER is on it's way by next year). And of course, we cannot forget...allnurses.com. There are cool folks here, too, even in our insanity, debates and drag out arguments.

I'm so glad to hear the news, Sue. I hope the other stuff gets resolved soon as well.

Best wishes in your now position!

I think it does us all a bit of good, from time to time, to stop and notice that an awful lot of nurses really are cool people.
