I have been on here starting and replying to posts about new grads not getting jobs and freaking out with everyone else. I was starting to apply to jobs I never though I would and out of the area even though I am married and my husband has his own business and it would be totally inconvenient...NOTHING was looking promising...very few students in my class were getting job offers. And it is not like I have your regular run of the mill resume. I am graduating Cume Laude, am a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, I have done 300 extra curricular clinical hours through a separate nursing program in a local OB department, became a certified doula while in nursing school, have extra certifications like ACLS and NRP, have done a lot of volunteer work in the medical field, and have past experience as a Certified Medical Assistant... but still was not getting any offers to the jobs I was interviewing for...the one I really wanted which was in OB in my town said that I interviewed really well but that they gave it to some one with a little more experience...I was starting to think I was going do some more unpaid preceptorships just to keep my skills up while waiting for this recession to turn around!

Well, I just got the official paperwork for a job offer for an OB position in my town...the very job I was turned down for...turns out I was their second choice and one of their nurses got into midwifery school and is moving way!:yeah:

Just want to tell people not to lose hope! Just when you think all is lost things can turn around! I have my dream job that I have wanted before I even started my pre-reqs and it is just over a mile from my house...I could walk to work! Sorry if I am gloating but

Congrats to you. Glad all worked out, yu deserve this. Just tell you friends to be aware that even in the most neede professionmany hospitals have put a hiring freeze in place for the time being. Even medical is taking a beeting right now finacially. There are several hospitals in my area that are not looking to hire as many grads as usual until things pick back up, which they will as summer continues to pick up. So just tell them to keep applying and something will happen in the next 2 months. Again congrats there's nothing like that first success.

You worked hard and deserved your success enjoy!

Thanks. I think we all know that things are eventually going to turn around, but many people with student loans are getting real nervous, there is a short time after graduation and then you have to start paying back loans...some classmates have $30,000...I think its a hard slap too because who wasn't told three years ago when we started "you'll always have a job as a nurse!" ? of course no one could have anticipated that the economy was going to take a big fat dookie!

Many congratulations! Thank you for sharing your experiences with the job hunt because I think it will help prospective nursing students in mapping out their journey. I have been ridiculed for saying that not working while in school and acquiring a ton of debt isn't necessarily a good move. In addition to the other multitude of reasons a slow down in the economy can be a nightmare for people with a lot of debt, whether its "good debt" or not.
