Professional football pays a lot! So does investment banking. You could also try being a radiology tech or a dental hygienist. Long story short, there are lots of ways to make as much as, or drastically more than, a nurse. But you have to put in the commensurate time and effort.

Well, depends on your area and specialty as to how much you would make. So, some nurses may make $40K / year while others make $100K or more per year. Some managers at fast food restaurants make $40K, too.

I guess I should have been more specific. I meant around 55-60,000 year with preferably a 2 yr degree, but I understand that it might take a 4 year degree.

It's not fun starting over, but I need to get away from healthcare related jobs. The treatment is atrocious. I never see waitresses or other people that are berated , punched , and verbally abused as healthcare providers are.

Can you imagine - going out to a restaurant and seeing the waitress get their arm bitten by a patron? Sued for neglect( oops, sorry, forgot your fries?) etc.Verbally abused?

Alot of jobs pays as much even more than nursing. Not many if any of those fields has as many available jobs as nursing

I get that nursing is tough, but you may be romanticizing other career choices a bit. I never got sued for neglect or bitten working as a hotel desk clerk, but I did get robbed at gunpoint and have a vase thrown at me.

if you try to choose your career based on how much money you will make you will probably find yourself just as unhappy with those choices as many new grads today who find themselves disillusioned with their nursing career nearly instantly.

as a general rule you should expect that the more education you have the more money you can earn, exception being those very physically intense jobs that don't require heavy education so much as heavy wear and tear on their bodies. and that the more money you earn the more aggravation, abuse, threats, complaints you should expect to receive.

no such thing as free money lol.

I worked retail for a short while between nursing jobs. If you think nurses don't get any respect, try retail and see what the general public thinks of you then. They treat you like you are at the bottom of the food chain in intelligence, blame you for the store's policies that you had nothing to do with, and generally treat you like a piece of expendable dirt.

Most definitely true! I worked retail for 8 years and I got more abuse heaped on me then than I do now when I work with drunks, meth heads and generally unpleasant people. My worst day as a nurse is still miles above my best day in retail.

Dont get me wrong-I worked at Mickey D's for 3 years, and factory work for 17, until that went to mexico.

I just see some of the degree'd jobs not paying even what nursing makes as a 2 year degree job.

It's not even about the money- I mean, I only put that number there as that is the cost of living where I am. I pay the mtg on a dilapidated house, drive a vehicle with 215,000 miles ( Original owner) pay the health insureance on my son and spouse ( spouse employer offers insurance that costs 50 percent of his paycheck/month.

I'd be happy to live in a 800 sf home.I'm not looking to be rich. Im just looking to get away from healthcare.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. They say everyone has a nitch. I just havent found mine yet. I tried /failed computers. Im just not engineering material. wish I was- my brother and father were both computer engineers and lived comfortably.
