AN store

I was bored so went to AN store. I was really shocked to see candy covered sunflower seeds in an imitation pill bottle. There was another snack also.

This so upset me to see candy items being sold disguised as medicine. Would you let your children have the candy cigerettes or bottles of imitation liquor bottles filled with kool-aide? I don't think so. Pharm companies has stopped making medicine look appealing to children and now this site is marketing it?

This just really bothered me and I think it was totally inappropriate.

Flame away.

These are clearly labelled that they are for adult use. Candy in a (clearly marked) pill bottle is less troubling to me than pills in a candy bottle.

Specializes in Electrophysiology, Medical-Surgical ICU.

The site probably didn't see anything wrong with it in this instance because this a site directed and nurses or nursing students. You wouldn't expect a kid to be on THIS site purchasing the candy covered seeds. I do agree that if it was sold in a regular corner store I would be upset, but in this case it is meant for past, present, and future nurses! This is not a child's website! JMHO

Specializes in Certified Med/Surg tele, and other stuff.

As a mom of kids aged 23-7, I would only give them to the 12 yr old on up.

I do think as nurses we have enough brains to realize these would not be appropriate for children. ;)

No flames. It's a free country. You can buy or not.

I want the pens to distribute at work, but then everyone would know where I go.:sofahider

It would be a great gift for a nursing student (after pinning ceremony), or great in a gift bag with other party favors for nurses week.

Specializes in Vents, Telemetry, Home Care, Home infusion.

i ate candy cigarettes and bubblegum cigars as kid...never smoked day in my life.

More concerned about childrens vitamins sold as gummy chews---much higher potential for children to be harmed.

Specializes in PACU, OR.

There's already been a long, and at some times pretty heated, thread on this specific subject.

As far as I know, the AN store is only open to AN members, and I would hope that nurses and other health care professionals would be informed and mature enough not to flash sweets in pill bottles around small children. I would also hope that nurses and other health care professionals are informed and mature enough not to leave ANY pill bottles around where kids can get hold of them.

That said, aren't there nurse/doctor play sets with sweets in the plastic "pill bottles"? I seem to remember seeing them in the toy shops....

Specializes in Critical Care; Cardiac; Professional Development.

We use them when doing skills check-offs on med administration. No biggie - responsible adults will not misuse them and irresponsible adults will not be made worse by them being available.

Specializes in Cardiac Care.

Seriously?

I think there are bigger fish to fry...

Specializes in SRNA.

I think the bigger issue here is how delicious the chocolate covered sunflower seeds are... who would have thought?!

OH GOD NO. Don't start the whining about appropriateness of AN store stuff. There was a thread of total ridiculousness quite a while back about this. Pleeaaaase no more.
