What is the youngest age patient you have taken care of or has b een on your L&D unit?

I was floored the other week when we had a 12 year old in labor. Yes, 12 years old. Merely a baby herself, having a baby. That was the same day I was caring for a laboring 14 year old who was having her first baby (a 33 week demise at that).

:crying2: So very very sad.

We had a 12 year old with triplets not long ago. The youngest I've personally taken care of was an 11 year old victim of rape. It was an etop, a bad bad experience.

Gosh, this just breaks my heart. My daughter is 13, and can't IMAGINE her pregnant. How truly tragic for all involved.

Her mom was just delighted to have a grandbaby by her own boyfriend. Gee she got a new baby to play with and didn't have to go birthin it herself! :angryfire

A good old fashioned plastic-band castration is what that ******* needed!

i was the only one who felt she shouldnt take the baby home.even under her mothers supervision...hello... howd she get pg in the first place.?..under same moms supervision(how hard is this)QUOTE]

ITA! I see this babies who are born to moher's with substance abuse problems as well. Sure! Give the baby to mom's mom. 'Cause she did such a good job with her daughter! :angryfire

I used to live in a town with a really high teen pregnancy rate. There was a girl who got pregnant when she 14 and the baby's father was 17. She had her baby in January and then had her 2nd baby in October THE SAME YEAR...with the same guy and she was still only 14 yrs old with the 2nd baby!!!!

Lots of teen moms in my neighborhood. Sometimes pushing one baby in a stroller with another on the way! Of course all their friends have babies, too. So sad.

In clinical there was a pt in labor who was 12, the father was 14, and her mother was 26. Imagine being a grandmother at 26.

DANG! Ididn't even know what sex was at 11yrs. old ! Where are the parents?!

Judging by Mel's post,("In clinical there was a pt in labor who was 12, the father was 14, and her mother was 26. Imagine being a grandmother at 26", The parents are doing the same thing, guess where the kids learnt it!!!!!!!!

Sad state of affairs though, when it is happening so often, and there kids will probably do the same, viscious never ending cycle :(
