Years Experience on the white board

Published

My hospital wants us to start writing our years of experience on the whiteboard in our patients' rooms. Good idea, right? Except for nurses like me; I only have two years experience. So putting this:

Name, RN

2 years experience

on the whiteboard... Is that reassuring to a patient? Or scary? lol. Honest opinions welcome.

I haven't been complying with this so far.

Now thats what needs to be written on the whiteboard!:chuckle

Specializes in Geriatrics, Home Health.

Why did they think this would be a good idea?

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.

four years, nine months and 30 days 'til retirement. and counting.

Specializes in Critical Care, Education.

LOL - I love some of these responses. But I am puzzled about the reasoning behing the original request. Are they equating amount of experience with competency? As an educator, I can attest to the fact that there is no real correlation. Achieving competency/ expertise is not simply a matter of showing up.. it takes effort. I have encountered many 'experienced' nurses who seem to be repeating year one over and over again.

Specializes in School Nursing.

i'd be tempted to write : "too damn many" !! lol :coollook:

praiser :heartbeat

It all stems from AIDET. It's supposed to be reassuring to the patient.

Yeah, I can see how reassuring it would be for a new grad to come in and write "one month" or whatever. Quick way to make your job worse.

Bortaz, RN

15 days, 4 hours, 12 minutes experience.

Way to go Bortaz , celebrate with your patients when you make it to a full month !

This idea of putting lenght of experience on a board is stupid . What next , size of biceps , so patients will know who can lift well ?!

Well, while they are at it, how about.....

Your physician is: Jack Sprat, MD :jester: 2 months experience

had to look up AIDET, i see this another suggestion from the much esteemed (not) Studer group
