2-Year Nursing Students

Published

I am posting this wondering how many of us are 2-year students. We face different challenges and issues than those who are going to 4-year schools. I was just curious, how many of us are there here?

starting my ADN next week!

Congratulations!!!

I am going for my ADN because of the time I have to complete it. We will be living here until August of 2010... which means, if I get in next year, I will complete the the 2 year program a few months before we leave. Otherwise I may have tried for a BSN.

I'm not sure how it works in other places, and I didn't completely read through the other posts before this, but here the actual ns is only one semester longer for BSN vs ADN. But, pre-reqs are about twice as long.

I am a 2 yr nursing student and I'm very excited. My college only has one semester of pre-reqs before you can apply so I'm hoping to get in next fall. I look forward to getting my BSN right afterwards but I just had a baby 6 months ago, so this program fits more with my schedule for now. Good luck everyone!

I only have my eyes on a two year program. My logic is that if I have to wait two years to get into the program that would be just fine because I am going to travel and live on the Navajo Reservation. So it doesn't matter how long I will have to wait

I'm doing ADN, wish I could do BSN but at this particular time in my life I'm pursuing what works for me the best!

OMG mystiqx! I remember the spring when we were talking about the Pre-NLN exam! You got into your program already? We have a two+ year waiting list here! I applied to the program in November 2006 and was told my start date was Fall 2009 but that i could expect to start one term earlier, Spring 2009. Isn't that crazy? Luckily, I applied to another school where I've been guaranteed a seat in Fall 2008. This school only starts the program with the Fall semester. Anyway, I have less than a year's wait left but that gives me time to complete my sciences.

Congratulations on starting this fall! I hope everything is going well for you!

I just applied for an ADN program that is 16 months long. After that I'm going for my BSN and so on.

Hey there willbenurse -- thanks!! I PMed you.

I'm attending a local two year nursing program. It's going to take me three years though because of pre-req's.
same here.

I am in a ADN program, though I would have preferred BSN program but there are none in my area except RN-BSN programs. I have a previous AA degree and would have been able to earn my BSN in the same amount of time, with roughly the same amount of credits earned because of my previous AA degree. There are programs all over the country that I could transfer into as a junior and graduate with my BSN in the same amount of time as my ADN but, unfortunately, not in my area. So I am going to work after graduation and earn my BSN part-time, then my MSN sometime down the road.

I just finished my ADN. For those of you that sound upset that you settled for an ADN because it was what's available....remember...for BSN you'd pay for 2 more years of school..without making RN wages. And...they don't get paid much more. In my area (MN) they only make .50 more an hour. There are MANY online programs that will take you from ADN to BSN and you can work as a nurse while you do it.
