I've never posted here before but I am going to be applying to Yale School of Nursing this fall for a 2015 start in the GEPN program, CNM/WHNP cohort. Wondering if there are others out there preparing to do the same? I'm heading down to their info session next week.
Yes, at least that is what the receptionist said, but you can definitely call to double check. I'm trying to see this more as a mini vacation, especially since I work as a doula and haven't gone away for over a year due to being on call. The shuttle was the real kicker- I won't need to worry about directions, parking, etc. and I can leave my car with my boyfriend.
$115 is better than $119 but it's a bit laughable that they'd tell us it's a special Yale rate. I'm going to check out airbnb tonight and see if there's any good deals. I saw a few nicely priced rooms in New Haven that have parking so I could drive down to Orange from there...but the convenience of a shuttle and not getting myself lost...that sounds nice, too.
Congrats everyone! If the shuttle system doesn't intimidate you, I recommend staying in New Haven to get a sense of the city and campus. While it may be a bit more pricey, The Study is a great place to stay--the adjacent restaurant Heirloom is one of my favorites in the area. Most students I know currently live downtown and commute as there is not too much going on in Orange itself. The nursing school is beautiful with plenty of free parking for those of you who will have a vehicle (a big upgrade from the old location). If you do take the shuttle, there is a great smartphone app called Transloc that gives the shuttle routes and locations in real time.
I was talking to a friend and she told me that the airport at New Haven is pretty small and something or other, so I could try flying into NYC or Newark and then taking something down to CT. Maybe it'll be cheaper than flying to Hartford or something? No idea
Still debating between phone and in-person interview...
Hey Guilty, we seem to be in a similar situation.
I'm debating between flying to NY the day before and then taking the train to New Haven the day of my interview. The train would depart from Grand Central close to 6am and get to New Haven just before 8am. And then I would take the train back to NY (I am taking a mini-vacation and plan to stay in NY with a friend for the rest of the weekend) and fly back from NY. This is less inexpensive but has the potential stress of not waking up on time, missing my train, etc.
My second option is to fly in New Haven and then stay the night at a hotel. As you mentioned, since New Haven is a small airport, it's more expensive to fly into. And then add on the cost of the hotel. But there's no stress about the train or anything.
Just my 2 cents - I think if you can manage it, you should do the in-person interview! I've never been to Yale before and I'd rather spend some money now and see if I like the place than choose to enroll and end up regretting my decision because I never visited.
The Metro-North train is what you can take to get from Grand Central to the New Haven train station (its about a 2 hr ride)

As to how you get from the New Haven train station to Yale...I have no clue. They must have a bus going there and I'm sure there's taxis.
