I've never posted here before but I am going to be applying to Yale School of Nursing this fall for a 2015 start in the GEPN program, CNM/WHNP cohort. Wondering if there are others out there preparing to do the same? I'm heading down to their info session next week.
Just popping in to say that I will be interviewing at Yale (PMHNP) on Jan. 29th. I live in New Haven, so I could possibly give people rides to the nursing campus or provide a couch if anyone needs it. Or if anyone has any questions about New Haven, feel free to ask. Obviously I can't accommodate tons of people, but just in case you're in a real bind, thought I'd put it out there.
ETA: For those of you thinking of renting cars, just another option I thought of (besides calling me :-)): the Yale shuttle goes between the main campus and the nursing campus regularly. I'm not a current Yale student, and I have never had trouble just hopping on unnoticed, at least within New Haven. You might want to call and ask about that option. There is also a bus system here that goes up and down Rte. 1, but you'd have to walk a mile or so from the bus stop to the campus. Sorry if I'm repeating info; I didn't read the entire thread.
I share a two bedroom apartment near downtown New Haven that costs $1450 a month all together (so I pay $725). You could definitely find something for less (or more), but my roommate needed to be within walking distance of her lab. We're on the border between nice New Haven and sketchy New Haven. Good areas of New Haven are downtown, wooster square, and east rock, to name a few. But the nursing campus is not in New Haven with the rest of Yale--if you wanted to be closer to it, you'd find something in Milford or Orange and that would probably be more reasonable (but less in the thick of things).
Most students either live in the East Rock neighborhood or downtown. East rock tends to have more of a neighborhood feel with multifamily homes, small, fenced-in backyards, parks, italian markets, and free on-street parking for residents. East Rock is further from the main campus. Downtown is more lively with restaurants, clubs, museums, and large businesses. Most residences downtown are large apartment buildings. Many nursing and med students live in the Park Street Towers as this is within walking distance of Yale New Haven Hospital. Both living situations have their perks. There are other places to live on the outskirts of town if city living isn't your thing, there are good options in Hamden, which is just minutes beyond East Rock, and Westville, which is a safer New Haven neighborhood. Apartments will run anywhere from $800-$1300 per/month average for a 1-2 bedroom.

Also have Jan 29th for PMHNP :-)

nonto, I'd recommend also looking at airbnb.com instead of a hotel. It's pretty affordable. I've used it when I've traveled to other cities and haven't had any issues.
