Yale 2015

Published

I've never posted here before but I am going to be applying to Yale School of Nursing this fall for a 2015 start in the GEPN program, CNM/WHNP cohort. Wondering if there are others out there preparing to do the same? I'm heading down to their info session next week.

Hello Obgardner,

I just tried sendining to [email protected] ( I also tired.com) but it didnt work. However, your forwarding address worked. Please inform me if you have received the email.

Best,

Bashir

Hey! Yeah, you can't send messages until you have posted a certain number of liked posts. I don't have that feature enabled either. You can reach me at [email protected]. It's a temporary forwarding address. :-). All the best!

EDIT: Actually, CC this one just in case too:[email protected]. Forward Cat doesn't always work.

So those of you who are applying to Columbia and Yale (or another program and Yale), are you just doing the Yale financial aid right now for FAFSA? Or both? I know there has been discussion about this, but I am just wondering exactly what everyone is doing. I may ask this question in the Columbia post as well, but I am thinking that this is the better place as this is the only school that's not 5th year undergraduate.

The only school I am applying to, anyway. :)

I'm doing exactly what you said. I filled out fasfa just for yale. If I landed at colombia I will add them and edit my fasfa.

I added all the schools I'm waiting to hear back from (you can add a max of 10, I only have 5 I'm waiting to hear from) Not taking any chances!

Anyone else worrying about interview day looks? I don't own a suit and was considering just throwing a blazer with some slacks I already own - what I always do for job interviews, but I've only worked lowly patient care and research positions so far in my adult life. As I get closer to the interview I worry that might be too casual and I should go find myself a real suit instead. Has anyone done any in person interviews yet for school?

I may have possibly shopped. A lot. :shy: I have some online stuff coming and I'll send back what I don't like. I didn't go full suit because I don't like them but I did do some wool dresses and blazers.

Despite being in my 30s I am woefully short on grown up clothes.

Hi jae919,

I am a current RN student that joined YSN this year. It is incorrect that RN spots are only for "GEPNs that have dropped out". There is usually about 50ish RNs accepted this year. Anywhere between 15-25 matriculate. Melissa told me that many RNs that are accepted will be offered raises by their nurse managers, and therefore defer admissions. There was about 10 incoming FNP RNs this year. Hope this information helps!

I'm sorry for giving incorrect information about that. My understanding was completely different. I am glad you posted cthomson

Hi cthomson, thanks for clarifying that! I am applying to the FNP program starting in August (I'm already an RN). Can you tell me a little about what you've thought of the program so far, as far as how organized they are, quality of the education, etc (anything else you can think of that might be helpful)?!

Thanks so much!

Sure! I did an accererated BSN program at OHSU (another top notch program) and find that the two programs are comparable in quality. They typically clump the incoming RNs and the GEPNs together during the orientation process for the last few weeks of August. I found that orientation was heavily GEPN focused. I think that there are many changes that will be happening as far as the pathophysiology class and advanced health assessment classes go that I took last semester. It sounds like the administration is looking at 'cutting the fat' when it comes to these classes. The faculty is very organized as far as coordinating and communicating clinical placements. Quality of lectures is actually rather interesting. YSN actually has A LOT of guest lecturers, and they are usually renowned specialists in their respective fields. I find that there are more opportunities at YSN than other schools (global health travel, plant-based health classes, creative writing (nursing specific) etc)
