Do you think my height will affect my ability to get a job?
Will my height intimidate the other hospital staff and possibly the patients?
Or to the contrary people will love that a tall guy is taking care of them/working as a nurse?

I honestly don't see where you would have a problem at all. Height shouldn't factor into it at all. Your personality and ability to sell yourself it what will help you along with a good resume. i don't see where your height would be intmidating, but if you find that it is just look for ways to present yourself in a different way.

You would actually do great in the E.R or the O.R.

I am 6'1" and during my cna clinical, I had residents calling me a big teddy bear. I think it's more of how you carry yourself. If you look like a badass then yeah probably intimidating...but if you have a friendly smile and care for them, I think it will be a non-issue.

Shoot the other nurses will love having you around. I WISH we had a male nurse, let alone a male nurse with some height. As for patients.. You will have some that no matter what will have an issue. You could be 7 ft or 5 ft. They will complain to complain. If I were a patient I wouldn't care.

Its not that tall? According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the average height for an adult male in the United States is 5'9" as of 2006.
I wouldn't be scared of a nurse your size at all. And that's coming from a woman who stands 4'11" and weights 95lbs Unless of course you are that tall, are green and have bolts coming out of your neck, your height shouldn't bother most people.

In this case 6 inches does not matter. Most patients are laying down and cannot judge height.
Any co -worker worth their salt will not even notice the height difference.

I would feel pretty darn protected, and I'm a shrimp (only 5 feet tall). :) As the saying goes, better to have you on my side as an advocate than against me. You could always be "the voice of reason" whenever someone is treating a patient badly.

Nope OP, you shouldn't have a problem. People tend to pay attention to professional appearance, rather than size.

Although I am not a "Man in Nursing" and I am a very tall female. And no one is scared of me =)... or, at least not because of my height.
I would love more nurses near my height, male or female - things that require two people are always easier when both are about the same height (I can bring the bed ALL THE WAY UP).
