If your facility went back to white uniforms for licensed nursing personnel, would you quit? Just wondering as I've heard discussions about some facilities going back to all white for nursing staff.
Well I think that is kind of trivial to quit your job because they are going back to the attire that nurses originally wore, don't you?
Nope... I would however start wearing the brightest colored thongs I could find!

Yep...there's a surgery for that
I have yet to find any OB/GYN who will do that surgery for me... and I have asked every single one I have ever met. It's not that easy to get a hysterectomy!
But seriously, maybe I am in the minority, but I don't mind color-coded scrubs. I have worn ceil blue, navy blue, forest green, and teal at various jobs. What I DO mind is white!

You mean rolling back the progress nurses have made over the last 30 years.
I can't decide if this post is terrifyingly obtuse or brilliantly sarcastic....
I laughed so I'm going with brilliantly sarcastic.
Well, I cringed so I'll go with terrifyingly obtuse.
The majority of my patients are Medicare beneficiaries home from acute and rehab and If I had a dollar for everytime I've heard they can't tell the different hospital staff apart.. It's not a issue I have but from my long time perspective hospital staff don't generally do a consistent job at differentiating staff by discipline and postion.
Any medicare beneficiary at this point in time identifies nursing staff with white, even the ones who revere nurses.
Says the HH nurse who wears jeans and a henley to work and will fight to the death to keep doing so :-)
BTW, this thread has had the most funny posts!
As long as I can't see the colorful prints of some nurses underwear , I'm fine with white and occasional do wear white. A person can quit or strike but a private employer has the right to impose any uniform code they wish. We should be talking about what some of you nurses need to do to stop showing off butt cracks with them scrubs sometimes
One of my tops is white (Koi/Katlyn) and is very cute! I wear it with all sorts of colored bottoms and it looks very nice. It also bleaches very well and it's probably one of the cleanest uniforms I own.
They could mandate rainbow and I'd probably wear it. I love my house, car, and food too much to really care.
Absolutely not! I still wear mine and will never give it up. I am old fashioned in that way. Its what I feel comfortable in and what I have always worn. I tried scrubs, I didnt' care for them. I felt like I was wearing pajamas. I care even less for street clothing. I still get "why do you wear that cap?"
My answer is the always the same. "Because I worked hard for it."
Honestly, I LOVE nail polish, dresses, and white. So... maybe I'd love the white uniform code. Even if it meant crisp dresses and all! Problem is, 12 hour shifts leave you DRAINED. I wear royal blue Greys Anatomy scrubs that don't wrinkle and require no fuss, so... it's easy to get dressed for work. Yeah, I'm picky about my nails, so I usually touch them up and make sure my coat is clean. Then I grab 2 diet cokes, kiss my husband and daughter goodbye, and head out the door for the night. Makeup and hair is done in the car quickly AFTER parking at work and while listening to my daily Bible (inspirational) podcast.
I'm sorry... being a nurse doesn't mean that you have to give up being female. It SHOULDN'T anyways.
White is a NICE color, if you can wear it responsibly. I love Greys Anatomy scrubs in royal blue, but I have NO idea how they work out in white. White can be worn irresponsibly, easily. I've seen African nurses wear white scrubs with white undies at my previous job. No.... that does NOT work. If white is the mandate for your workplace, match your undies with your skintone.
Regardless... look at the BRIGHT side XD The patient will CLEARLY identify you as a nurse.
Whenever I contemplate the white scrubs mandate I can't help thinking about this guy, no matter what size or gender he or she is.
I too wonder how so many nursing myths are still making the rounds.
I think people are missing the truth about the authority a nurse used to represent while focusing on such things as white uniforms and caps. I always thought the old white lace-up shoes with heels meant "I could kick your a** if I had to".
I think those Nursemates with the little blue hearts sent the wrong message.

I think white uniforms are the dumbest idea ever. Its like a dirt magnet.
Would I quit over a white uniform, heck no!
But from what I read from the OP this is latest in a long line of management insanity
