Hey all,
Yes If you look at my profile I am a Nurse Recruiter for the Army. I am also an Army Nurse. I joined back in 1987 to get out of my home state and to see the world. I have done that, but I meander. Anyways I am now recruiting nurses and it is hard!!!!! I need a pulse of the feelings of the non-military nurses out there SO
The question is this:
If I offered would you join the Army Nurse Corps? Why or Why Not?
My question is, why would I want to join the Army Nurse Corps? ...What benefit could I possibly get from joining the Army Nurse Corps opposed to getting a nice job at a civilian hospital?
Hello,
Then do not join. If your heart isn't in it then you shouldn't be there, nor would I want to have you working alongside me or being my nurse.
There are plenty more options for you.

I have thought about this time and time again! still thinking about it! i am curently in the National Guard and will be graduating THIS MAY! I have nothing holding me back from doing this (no kids, no hubby, etc) I am weighing the pros and cons! Can you give me advice on what the process for me would be? i know that i can become on officer upon graduation. i dont want to go active duty, i am not opposed to deployment but dont want to be active duty. What is the pay and what are the duties? Do you work in hospital settings? When deployed do nurses stay back behind enemy lines? Have you ever gone overseas, and if so what did you do? I have heard that they treat nurses VERY well, sign on bonuses and all!
Sorry i know i asked alot! Thanks for any input!

I'm too old . . . . plus I have a 5 year old and a 17 year old still at home.
But yes, I would love to join a branch of the military and go overseas.
I'm almost finished with "We Band Of Angels" about the nurses in WWII - Army and Navy and civilian. I have great respect for medical people who serve their country.
I don't think the op is recruiting - just looking for reasons why people are or are not interested.

Why don't you answer the question, so those of us who are not familiar with this branch of nursing can learn a little about it?
I, personally, want the govt in as little of my life as possible...so I would never be really interested. But, I'm still interested in hearing what is so great about being in the Army Nurse Corps.

Let's see.....benefits, opportunities, cutting edge of trauma care, the honor of taking care of those who have dedicated their lives to protecting our country. It would not matter to me which country my pt would happen to be in at the moment, the uniform was put on with the intention of protecting me. That alone makes it an honor to care for them in their times of need.

I agree - I have such high regard for our military folks. Comes of course partly from being a Baby Boomer with a parent in the military. My Dad served in Korea and my father-in-law in WWII in the Pacific on a Destroyer Escort.
It would indeed be a great honor to care for them.

I'd love to join the Army or Navy Nurse Corps, but my husband is active duty Coast Guard and they couldn't guarantee that we'd be stationed together, and while I'd love to do it, my time with my family comes before any job.
